Armada JJ AT set up with skins?

Anyone out there using a JJ for an AT set up? I'm looking at setting up a pair.

What size skins did you use? 130?

How does it climb?

Weight of bindings? go with a lighter binding like a Naxo or a beefy Duke?

a big ski like that will be a lot of work in the bc but if your doing smaller stuff you wont notice the weight. as for skins i have G3 alpinist ( http://http://www.genuineguidegear.com/telemark_alpinist_skin.html ) they make them in a 130mm and i have a nice tip attachment for wide skis. I got them for $86 during the summer on backcountry. I wouldnt get Naxo's I've heard some breakage issues with them. Barons or dukes would be alright if your not doing long tours but I would go with the Fritschi freeride.

let me know how the fat skis work in the bc cause I'm looking at getting karhu 130

My brother did that. He used 140 Black Diamond skins that I got for him. Naxo bindings are complete shit. Frischi's suck if you're going to hit anything and not just cruise around. I would suggest Dukes or Barons depending on your size.

Thanks guys-

I'm a big guy. 5'10" 185lbs.

Not planing on any long tours. Maybe up to 3/4 hours. I'm used to a heavy set-up for hiking. The JJ is a wide ski, but its really all that I ride now days, a perfect bc and in-bounds ride.

I know there is a few guys on the ARG touring, but haven't talked with anyone on the JJ yet. Just trying to see if i should wait for the 181 ANT next year for a AT set up....

I know nothing about touring but the jj's do have a little bit of camber and they are actually pretty light

Oh, I know the JJ's are SICK! I have 2 sets hardmounted. So much fun, and not that heavy! I'm wanting to pull off a set of bindings and replace with an AT on one.

The weight of the ski isn't that big of an issue to me. I just want a great binding that won't fail, that is not overly heavy for what I'm using the ski for.

nice I'll have to look at those when i get a new AT ski. Barons or Dukes would be best bet. from what others say but my dads 6'4'' 220 and never had a problem with his Fritschi after 4 years. but hes not landing switch at all either

To answer your question--> Yes people do it. and Yes it works.
My roommate has a pair of this years JJs with Dukes on them. He has only used them a few times for skinning, but he said that he loved them. His NS name is Scott~ if you want to PM him with questions.
I would say go for it. They are an awesome ski that would be perfect for what you are looking at doing.

I'd put touring setup on JJ's over ANTs, they will be lighter and ANTs are nowhere near as good in soft snow (and I love ANTs, ski them all the time). It will be fine for sidecountry. I have 193 EHP's with Dukes, thye are retardedly heavy but as long as you aren't planning on doing glacier traverses/hut tours you can deal with it. Freerides are fine if you aren't hucking, but why not get Dukes? Only a bit heavier, way more bomber, only downside is you have to take ski off to switch walk/ski mode and climb assist isn't as good.

My setup is 185 JJs, with Marker Barons and Black Diamond 130 accention skins.
I LOVE IT.
The skis are light, fat and sick for BC shit. The Barons are so nice and burly for hucking so far. I really like the tour function on them. They're the first AT binding I've used and this is the first season of Skinning for me, but I'm so happy I dumped the money into it, because 2-3 feet of fresh pow is so sick when you can do multiple runs because you can beat everyone else up the hill.
Do it. You won't regret it.
Any more questions and you can PM me.

Skin sizes goes with the widest point on the ski. Since your skis go 136/115/133, get 140mm and cut them. 130 would be fine too since it's rockered and the tip and tail won't even be touching the snow.
