Are your parents gapers?

My mom's a boss, she shreds many of the hardest runs at crystal no problem. My dad, on the other hand, hasn't skied since they met. When my parents met, my dad had a fat ass black eye from skiing the night before, haha.
 
my dad rides, salomon czars and rocker 2's, with a salomon suit.

slides boxes. does 180's

he comes to all the premieres with my mom who doesnt ski. they know pros. they taped the xgames on my pvr.

my dad snowmobiles in movies, and he is always in whistler or revelstoke int he BC, and meets alot of pros and then tells me who he met

dane tudor, spriggs, riley laboe, josh stack, ect

and hes freinds with like dan treadway.
 
my dad just started skiing last season but he is officially off the magic carpet. Rides Amplid skis, and used to rock my old t-hall c bars until he LOST them!! and didn't think it was a big deal.

My mom doesn't ski but she knows what newschoolers is, tanner hall, xgames, snogression, rail jams and roughly what tricks I can do.
 
my dad rides armada ARV's and just bought new nordica pow skis.

My mom wears a tall ass jacket she got back in like 05. She knows jiberish piecies by ame because she looks at the site all the time.

they both know about x-games and jon brogan and P-white
 
My mom barely every goes skiing, but my dad has been skiing every month of the year for the past 4+ years, makes his own skis, would bum rides throughout college form Chico to Sugar Bowl every weekend so he could follow his passion, and has been skiing longer than most of the members on this site have been alive...

so no, he is most certainly not a gaper.
 
my dad still races in a beer league, and when he was younger he could rip pretty hard. my mom didnt learn to ski till she wass like 30 so shes no good
 
i was blessed with parents that shred, they are both over 60, both still prefer to shred pow. mom rides czars, dad rides pocket rockets. my dad can hang for about a run then declines duramaticaly, sadely every year his skill seems to duramaticaly decline. F*&K i dont want to get old
 
hahhaha! my mom is ex bc race team and my dads is alright but my mom tore her achilles and acl so her level has fallen....
 
My dad's quiver consists of pocket rockets, ar6s and nordica enforcer superchargers

He is willing to drop little cliffs and can ski any run on the mountain for the most part

however, he dresses like a complete goon
 
both my parents telemark and downhill, go snow-camping and touring a whole bunch. my mom can do easy flat boxes (sideways) and my dad does cliffs up to 6m high. fkin love my parents.
 
My dad is a mega gaper. He wears those pants from the 80's with the big zip up leg warmers, and rides snowlerblades because he got them in the 90's and they haven't broken yet. He kills it though and rents proper skis on pow days, and hits boxes straight haha.
 
my mom has skis from the 70s with a jacket and poles to match usually doesnt wear goggles and is a great example of a gaper
 
hell yeah moms a gaper. two weeks ago at birthday supper she asked if i had enough money saved for new "trickin" skis. i replied no.
 
I have to ask exactly how one would define a gaper, to me a gaper is somebody who actively causes trouble for freeskiers on the mountain. For example a old guy who stops on the table of a jump and then goes and rages at the skiiers who air him (yes air not tap, tapping would make the skier the trouble maker) in the lift line is a gaper. I would not however consider someone who calmy rides runs and dresses a little oddly to be a gaper as they aren't really causing trouble. It seems unfair to call people who simply don't care for freesking a gaper, if they aren't insulting you why insult them?

To answer the calling of the thread I wouldn't say that either of my parents are gapers as my mom refuses to ski so she is no trouble at all. My dad XC skis mostly, but will ski on the mountain a couple days with my sister and I.

I realise that this has become a rant and for that I apologise however I feel it is important to attempt to define a gaper since it is pretty much NS's favourite word..
 
My mom doesn't ski.

My dad refuses to buy anything but the cheap $30 black snow pants and wears whatever jacket he can get from his work for free. So yeah he looks pretty gaperish and often has a gaper gap between his gogs and hat...but he's pretty decent at skiing.
 
My mom was a great skier, until she hit a tree square on a few years ago. Ever since she just rides groomers with her friends occasionally coming to the back bowls on a powder day.

My dad too was a skier, was throwing 3s up until 5 or 6 years ago when he started putting on too much weight to really do that anymore. He still rips mogles and what not.

Both had skiing backgrounds now they don't really give a fuck about what they look like, my mom's gaper gap is pretty ridiculous
 
My dad grew up skiing revelstoke, he hiked for lines like crazy. My mom's only skied twice in her life.

my dad can't charge like he use to due to neck/back problems, but he is still a better skier then a lot of people on the mountain

Dad = uber gaper; likes old toothpicks as skis and sucks pretty hard at skiing..

Mom = die hard pow loving woman; always in de backcountry touring, likes hiking for a line, takes a lot of courses etc, even an mountainering rescue course where they used heli's and shit.. Only problem is shes not that into skis like me.. I still need to get her on some Moment skis..
 
My dad tells me stories how he ripped it up in jeans and his old atomics...yeah idk. My mom hates the cold so my parents haven't skied since I was alive. I'm 22
 
My parents are gapers. For example, one time on the ski lift my mom put her goggles on up side down and did not notice it until I pointed it out to her. My dad on the other hand looks ridiculous because he wears these bell bottomish type ski pants and rocks these old school rectangular goggles. Basically, if your looking for something to wear on gaper day and all you have to do is simply look in your parents closet, there most likely a gaper.
Lastly, what kind of thread would this be with out some gaper day pictures.

My mom has salomon mynx twins and my brother who snowboards could probably ski down a hill backwards faster then she can forwards and my dad rocks my skull candy lowriders over a hat with sams club goggles but has a tall jacket and he jumps off the side of jibs but has tried rails and is gunna try skiing park so i say hes a gaper trying to learn

Not to mention she kills at moguls and tree skiing. I'm so proud.
 
my mom- doesn't ski anymore stopped in the early 90s. probably wasn't that bad, but how would i know? oh and she absolutely hates skiing because its all i talk about and thinks its too expensive.

my dad- still skis, rocks some 192 dynastars from 10 yrs ago, slightly shaped. doesn't look alike a gaper, other then his stupid hat and old goggles. all he does are groomers, and some easy moguls once in a while. i think he has it a box that was 6 in off the ground. doesn't really like freestyle, but certainly not rude or an ass when it comes to etiquette.

my bro- hes 10, sucks at skiing, prolly because he broke his leg 3 yrs ago and is afraid to do more then a green circle. i would consider him a gaper, even tho he does know some pros and terminology.

my sister- shes 17, isnt that good, kinda looks stupid at times, but not a gaper. and for some reason she is convinced she is better then me when i can kick her ass on groomers, trees, park, powder and everything, only because she doesnt consider anything other then groomers "real skiing" - 'dumbass'
 
no, my dad shreds on kung fujas and wears a xxl salomon jacket, smith i/os and a variant brim. He's taking a backcountry course with me this winter..
 
My dad shreds hard in his line prophet 90's and Rossi s7 freeride skis, he even hits some elementary boxes and knows who Tom Wallisch B-Dog and Tanner Hall are, his idol being mcconkey. My mom on the other hand. Start off with to pink 1 piecer, then the 1980's grom skis never leaving the snowplow, cutting off skis and even snowboarders also thinking that I will die on every jump.
 
My mom has never touched the slopes in her life. But my dad is pretty legit. He butters on butter boxes kinda, and he rocks some Grenade outerwear. Plus he still bombs cliffs. So def not a gaper.
