Before I delete this FB memory from 9 years ago....................



You know you are a ski "Bum" when you say thing like:

"A beer at the lodge? No way! I can get a six-pack for that!"

"That new ski wear is insane, but that's all my gas money there. I'll go to the second hand store!"

"Hey, check out my NEW skis! 13 years old, but only 70.00 dollars!"

Give us more. I could go on and on! What say you? If you can't think of anything, then you are not a ski "bum", you are "rich!"

(or pretending)

I guess one would have to be after spending, and robbing to support that habit.

Really though, meth is a sad drug.

I had a niece that was murdered because of that drug.

You might be a ski bum if you heated said hamburger helper up by putting it in your goggle pocket for a few runs.

Depends on how you define “bum”. If it means work all summer without a break just to take all winter off for skiing, that fits me.

If its scrunging for a pair of 20$ skis and living out of beater car, flipping tofu on a burner… nope, thats not me.

If refusing to pay 120$ for day ticket and only touring the back country all winter: yep!

If getting a 900$ season pass at the local resort to wait out the shit fuck days is a no.

I dunno, I just love to ski confortably!

I gave her the drug talk. I did my best to guide her, but alas, she is now gone.

Thanks for sharing this. I’ve lost people too. I’m not your age (21) so I wasn’t able to give them wisdom, but I miss them.

Then off to Field to conquer Mt Field 8500’. A few other stops home are the Goldstream, north of Revy, Nakusp natural hotsprings and Lardeau River to scope out the Goat Range Park.

I sure hope weather holds out for the better. Warm and rain is expected for the weekend and through the week. Aaaand I will be doing this on my own; couldnt find anyone to trip with! Dont worry, Ill pack enough weed and liquor to keep the spirits high!

Damn that’s impressive ! never heard of a ski race that involves skinning up to the top of the course. That’s pretty hardcore haha

Also heard nakusp hot springs are a beauty. Stay safe and have a good trip dude

Thanks! Living in Nelson is pretty sick. Everything ski related is a 7-8hr drive away at its furthest. Im combining this race with a passion in geology. Ill be panning the famous Goldstream; a place where during the goldrush, panners would come back to camp with an ounce a day! Im making sereval stops to find Topaz, aquamarines and kyanite in the Kootenay Pass, a 2.5 billion year old shale near Moyie and Sodalite near Golden. BC is a real treasure chest!

Skimo is growing pretty quick and gaining popularity in north america. In Europe, skimo racers are treated like gods. Huge crowds will gather to watch to start of the races. In Canada, most people have no idea this exists.

Skimo is even under consideration to make it an olympic sport. Join the movement early and get easy wins!

1037395.jpegThis was my last race in 2020 at Marmot Basin in Jasper. This course took me 1h55mins to complete. I can safely say it was painful and rewarding; I can only remember wanting to quit the race the entire time until the last checkpoint where my buddy yells out “dude! You are under 2 hrs! Hurry up!”

We linked up that trip with a tour to Jacques Lake in Jasper. The experience got me craving more!

1037396.jpegCovid shut down the races last year and made racing too much of burden logistically and financially. I was told that the race at Castle mt this year was more like prison; stay in the hotel until its time to race. There was no social events, just race and fuck off. Im glad I skipped it.

Next year, my touring partner and I are going to use the Skimo races as an excuse to road trip in his heated camper all around BC! He wants to compete in the senior devision as he is 60 now. We are already saving up!

I went skiing 90times last year and 67times this year I work all summer to buy new skis and attack13s but still have no money in the winter I would be there all day and follow anyone I knew by name into the restaurant for a scrap of food. Usually I'd ski with about 4 and a half French fries and a little mtdew in my stomach all day.

Am I a ski bum?

Hard Qualify!

When folks tail gate, I often get offered some food. Sometimes I accept, and sometimes I don't, but that's pretty cool.

For the most part, they are usually people that know me, or know who I am. Benefits of being a social guy, so it's always nice to be nice to everyone.

I just think it’s funny that it’s 20 degrees out and snowing yet I have to have the AC on Bcs it still isn’t cold enough for me lol

Yea, I kinda' figured as much.

There are too many people on the earth that can tolerate extreme cold, so you can't qualify just for that.
 
No way anyone is changing our mind on this, the best we can do is aspire to be just like him when we our older.

Because it's all makeup, and a character for the screen, it's a no qualify. I love the videos, but it's not "real".

I can get a 12er of Hamms the 6 bucks they get for a tap of beer at the bar,...

And a -40 sleeping bad on a foam pad in the box of my pickup with a topper,.....

Although, Full disclosure I did splurge and spend 45 a night for a bunk in the hostel this weekend,...
