Oh okay I see what you're saying. I thought you meant they weren't good.

I would still call stuff like Six Weeks and Mountain Sound fairly rock orientated.

the Tsarnaevs must be good, rolling stone is rolling out a cover story about them. And they are a mag about rock bands, so those brothers must play a mean sitar lick.

I havent listened to there older stuff but i have to respectfully disagree about mountain sound. Its the opposite of rock in my opinion. Although i love all three of those bands.

tame impala, manchester orchestra, kasabien (thats not how its spelled), the black keys, connan mochasin, black lips, death from above 1979, drive by truckers, the flaming lips, Kurt Vile, The Kills, Muse,The rural alberta project, Son Volt, Thee Oh Sees, TV on the radio, the pixies, white stripes,

Theres stuff out there, you just gotta find it.

There's a lot of really great metal bands out there right now. Most people can't get past the screaming (which is understandable), but there are some really awesome instrumental bands as well (intervals, animals as leaders):

But if you can get past the screaming, Vildjharta is fucking sick!

I think they're coming out with a new album in the next few months too.

Threads. im with you OP, classic rock is always playing at my work. the quality of the music then was far beyond what it is now

/images/flash_video_placeholder.pngMay not count as classic rock genre but they play real instruments and are good so...

Threads because there are lots of great bands in here that I haven't heard of, and here are my contributions to the thread:

Arctic monkeys:

Surprised I haven't seen them in this thread (or I missed them), honestly one of the best bands to come out in the past couple of years.

Crash Kings:

The hives( skip to :40 for the song)

:

And I'm going to mention Queens of the Stone Age again since I saw them a couple weeks ago and can't get over how incredible the show was:

The suppliers are a local band here in Calgary, they are probably one of the best if not the best local band I have heard, I highly recommend you check them out!

There are a lot more out there, I may post 'em later
