Are SPKs worth it?

So, at the moment I have Dalbello reflex 11s, they are custom fitted, with footbeds, zip fit liners, booster straps, pretty much the works, I ski them done up tight. They are however pretty stiff, 12-15 in Dalbello numbers.

They have been really good most of the season, I've got shin bang a bit, but mainly from landing in the backseat/crashing, which I can't really blame my boots for. I also didn't ski all that much park during the first half of the season. However towards the end of the season, when riding more park, I found that my shins were hurting a fair bit even when it seemed to me that I was landing fine.

I was just wondering if people think a softer boot, like the spk, as a second boot for park would be a worthwhile investment for the coming season in NZ (NZ snow can be pretty crappy so I might be riding park a lot). Has anyone changed from a stiff boot to a soft one and had big improvements?

if they fit they are a great boot, I personally love mine, they work well enough outside of the park and are great inside.

really comfy too, get fitted though, rampages or scratches or some other boot may be better for you. just go to a ski store and tell the dude you need a new boot, you do x amount of park, y amount of all mountain and he'll set you up.

I have tried some on, they fit ok, but they would need to be punched out. I haven't got to ski them, so am wondering about peoples experiences with them versus a stiffer boot.

I'm not sure I need a new boot, my dalbellos have about 100 days on them and are still awesome all mountain. I'm just thinking about whether the SPKs softness would help my shins.

shin bang usually comes from boots that don't fit right, you can still get it with spk's too

if they only fit ok have a fitter help you, it's the only way to go

The SPKs are super sick. I love them and the laced liner along with powerstrp really are money for solving shin bang problems. I have no shin bang problems in my SPKs and I did have that problem in my regular 1080 boots

i got the 1080 boots because the spks were sold out. i was definitly not dissapointed in the 1080. i tried the spk on earlier in the year and it did not fit my foot right. just go with what fits.

go with what fits indeed. i got head mojos, a pretty stiff boot if you do them up. when i ski the park, i slacken off the power strap and they work incredibly.

ya this is my second year skiing and i went from a crappy ass nordica racing boot(which i got such bad shinys i couldnt ski everyday and alot of the time i had to take a couple day brake) to a salomon foil which is a soft boot and it was great. i got a few shinys from crashes and landing low on landing a couple times other wise the boot was great and im lookin into the spks next year. i hear there cold thou is that true?

your most likely getting shin splints, not shin bang. you may think your landing perf but a tiny bit of bad landing throughout the whole day for a couple days will wreck your shins. boots cant help. but go to a bootfitter and get some fitted to try on
