I went skiing @ hood today and it was pretty sick, cept for the fact that i was using my old poles which are about hip-high. im hoping they only suck in pow-pow. are they really good in park? which ones should i get if they are?

they arent great in park, they are meant so that you cannot feel them in park, Therefore they are much better.

Pow on hood today? where were you, i coudnt find anything deeper than a foot at meadows

no, for the past couple of seasons i have been using poles that were about two sizes two small, i bumped up 4" to the right size and I could really tell a difference. they feel better (at least to me)

ya there was some dude with poles that went to his knees, he was a good skier but his poles were so stupid.... his arms were straight down and poles straight down and barely touched the ground.

seriously if your in the park, just dont use them, thats why like everyone you see in the park is using tiny poles, cause they dont serve any purpose and they need to keep them out of their way as much as possible, so just ditch them. they can be useful in pow pow though.

i use short poles when: skiing park, skiing pow, skiing trees, skiing anything

i like using short poles for the aforementioned

i like shorer poles, mine are about 2 inches short and i like them, but really short poles look dumb

your kinda deusch....

but back to the thread: short poles are in way a compromise. rather than get rid of them completely, they are shorter so that they are more out of the way and less awkward, especially in park, and you can still use then to push if needed. Seriously, just try it out if you already have some, or steal/borrow some rentals and see if its for you. if it is, stick with it, if not atleast dont be a complete ass like the guy i quoted.

thats the thing, long poles make you look dorky in the park, and short poles just dangle there and do nothing. so just use none.

i like using short poles becaue they stay out of the way. using long poles in the park just gets annoying to me. i would use no poles but i feel too clumsy in the lift lines.

oh man nothing deeper than a foot must totally suck out there today....on the eastcoast if we get like 5 inches some people call it a pow day

small poles feel better and look better. They stay out of the way. Sometime i just use no poles im startin to do that now. Easier to do grabs : )

Thats how my midget poles are. I made a set like that....but then lost my real poles so I had to use the midgs for like 3 weeks until I got new normys. They are ok, but it sucks ass anytime you actually need to pole plant or push.

I like my normal poles still shorter than the "90* bend in your elbow with the pole upside down" traditional fit. That is just too long for freeskiing to me. I'm not sure how long I cut them, but probably somewhere in the middle of "midget" and "traditional." Still completely functional though.

what happend to ahmet

ive heard of him befor

and pole lenght is personal preferance just like poles or no poles

i like my short poles.. they are less in the way, but they are still good enough to do mogules, and pow in, but i like being really low when doing that stuff anyways so they work perfect for me..

i find they are less in the way, less heavy = Better but for poling you need to bend your back alor which Sucks
