Are rails wrecking skiing?

ive got nothing against rails, i just dont do them myself. i like my skis the way they are... but i think when people do them, and in a gnarley fashion, its sick.

if allowing thousands of east coast kids to have fun on the shittiest mountains with no snow is wrecking skiing, then yes

Chances are if you responded yes to this thread, your bitter about sucking at rails.

Suck it up and spin to win fuckers.

Agreed, like I said, I love rails.

I just took offence to the guy who's point seemed to be: "all skiing and it's roots, except for what I do, is gay"

i wouldnt go that far. id rather see a steezed out snowboarder nosegrind than a skier nose grind. why? skiers have to stick their asses into the air.

NO rails are harder than well anything else i can think of you can do whatever on them and no one can stop you i like doing rails thats all my mtn has set up now

definantly not... it was one of those things thats bound to happen, weve followed trend with snowboarding like crazy, with clothes and shit it just makes it more interesting, more to do, more shit to get better at but at the same time people are pulling crazy shit and i think it looks a lot sicker to just be super smooth with it instead of like doing "switch 270, 360 bs switch up 450 out" shit on like a 10 foot rail like make it look good not just difficult

ever heard of breaking your paragraphs up into sentences?

rails are harder than anything you can think of? i don't think so, i've seen videos on here of kids who can't ski for shit, can't throw a 5, but can switch 270 on switchup pretzel 270 out. i think jumps are harder to get good at, and take more balls too.

I love rails. I would just rather see people putting more style in the them. Rather, than just doing a lot of switch ups. we need to get more inventive. example. at my home mountian i saw TJ Schiller do a hand plant to pull him self onto a kink rail..

i think skiers look better on rails than most snowbaorders. most snow boarders just ride straight on and do a 50/50. LAME

no change in rails? are you nuts? 270 on, pretzel switch up to switch on an urban? 270 on, pretzel 270 off on 30 sets? youre nuts

Of course not. They bring so much to the sport. They are half the reason why i ski, the other half being ramps/pipe

here is a story about someone thinking rails are dumb. so 2 years ago me and my cousin (some of you on this site may know him i wont say who but he is on this site) , any how we started in the park sking and i was hitting the rails falling and falling, untill i got it down so i got it down and it was the best feeling ever. he couldnt and went on the whole this is dumb i dont want to do this ,i as like ok just cause you cant do it dosent meen they are dumb , so i pushed him to keep trying and he did so yeah thats how it went. true story

well nobody is forcing people to do rails. so if you think its ruining the sport jus stay in the woods and do pow i guess. skiing can never be ruined ne ways

calling a rail jam skiing is false. there is no skiing involved. skiing is skiing through the woods, carving, or even going through a park. someone could never touch a resort and be able to 'ski' rails.

some could argue that yes they do wreck skiing. i dont like rails cuz i cant do them and they can get played but i guess they dont wreck skiing. someone could def make a good argument saying that they do though

BITCH PLEASE! rails are the sickest thing evvvvvver! soo sick and sooo much creativity and technicality can be done on them. Jumps are sooo sick. but rails are just as sick.

no, rails will die in 50 years but not right now

then we'll be doing like lazer skis just like armada video and we'll have robots

To whoever started this thread... saying that rails are wrecking skiing is first of all, ignorant. BUT regardless, think of this question...

How many people said that twin tipped skis were "wrecking" skiing when they came out? And look where the sport of freestyle skiing is today! Case and point.

compared to hidden rocks, rails do nothing to skis. I ski park all season, then I have some powder days, and I go home with 2 core shots and in need of a shit load of ptex.

rails were the natural progression of freestlye skiing, following the snowboarders who were following the skateboarders. I do find "urban skiing" a little bit ridiculous, but I do it anyway cause its a fun thing to do when theres snow and you cant get to the mountains. I'd like so see more events that make skiers push their boundries in all aspects of skiing, not just double kink rails with insance combo's. Thats why I thouht the K2 back 9 was so cool.
