Are rails wrecking skiing?

natural progression of the sport, as it takes after snowboarding, offers more to it and more ways for people to improve and be sick skiers, def not..

if anyone says yes to this thread, they can go back to the early nineties, get their skinny ass 207's and be a gapper like we were back then

no, but they can get a little played from time to time. Rails are just one more way to express style and to show creativity

you cant wreck skiing, skiing is just an abstract concept, it cant be broken down any more than it can be built up

how do you wreck skiing? like everyone will decide that its gay and stop? skiing is everyone skiing, not just pros.

i dont think rails wreck anything except skis themselves but whatever, i personally dont like rails, i like jumps and pow but if rails are your thing then thas cool to.

Well, I'm saying no to this thread, because rails are fucking sweet.

HOWEVER..... back in the early nineties I was shredding the fuck out of all kinds of terrain on my skinny ass 207's, and so were many of newschool skiings pioneers. It's due to that type of experience that people like Mike D can still show up all the younguns at events like the back 9.

Respect the roots buddy. Back then skiing skills counted for a lot more than they do now among lots of kids.

I love park and rails, but it's absolutely astounding how many kids can nail switch 9s and spin onto rails but cannot ski for shit. Many don't stand a chance in mountain terrain keeping up with the "gappers" from the nineties for whom being a good skier was just as important as what kind of tricks you can do.

no...personally me i think that rails are pretty sweet myself...i think when skiers grind it looks a hell of a lot cooler than when snowboarders do

rails are ok but jumps are way better. and skiers don't look as good on them as snowboarders.

why is it that when something fun and neet comes around, it all of a sudden ruins skiing?

Why do people have to say shit like that.

Skiing is something you do... its not a honey ham, you cant ruin it.

rails make it better.

they add somehting else to do.

whenever you add something else, it makes it better.

when you add 1 to 5 it makes 6. and we all know 6 is far superior to 5.

So when the next thing that someone dreams up to add to skiing, some dickchin like you will ask the question... Is it ruining skiing?

And I will say no.

know why?

Cause rails are awesome.

and fun.

and you are lame!

Rails = fueling skiing. It's just different. If you don't want to ski them, don't, if you do, then they're good. I love them.

rails give us east coasters something to do when theres not enough snow to have jumps or woods...which is always

rails are what is HELPING skiing right now. watching people get tech on rails the last couple years is just ridiculous. its been a couple seasons since ive reallllly dropped my jaw at someone jumping. rails are what are making skiing progress

Rails are cool b/c there isnt as much snow as there used to be and we want to keep on skiing, so its just something else to ski on besides snow which is disapearing.

you obviously havent seen that 5 blunt shifty that vanular does in LSS. I drop my jaw at most of the stuff in pro movies, air or rail

doing rails is just another part of a vast, vibrant sport. Its not gonna wreck skiing in the same way that biathlon doesn't wreck skiing.

You need to watch more skiing. The techicality of jumps in this seasons movies is definitely a leap from last year. Not seen any change in rails. Apart from more people are getting good at them.

I don't think it is ruining skiing but I do feel that they are getting sort of played. Everyone and there mother hits rails and does the same tricks. I think the backcountry is where its at. So good thing I'm on the east coast and hitting rails every day

theres still so much more to be done on rails think about it.... are we even close to doing say switch nollie lipslide nosepress's?
