are rails bad for edges?

some technician told me you can totally F up your edges by knicking one peice off on a rail. After that the rest comes out too and you don't have skis anymore! I like doing rails so i didnt want to believe this. Is it true of just bullshit.

 
um, usually not if you can slide good...it's usually when you fall off on concrete or stairs when your shit gets fucked...that's why you should consider using older skis that you don't much care about when you are beginning...

my skogens the edges are all crakced and shit and bent liek an S and its not good. i took it to the ski doc and he siad it was uncurable and fatal. sad sad day.

mike douglas was saying that you should bang the edges under the buot up with a rock so they dont catch the metal

they will usually only catch if they are brand new and not detuned at all...

They will get fucked up (under your boot) even if you never fall, but its not absolutely terrible. It is rare to catch an edge and rip it out since most of the rails, at resorts at least, have been 'polished' by the millions of other skiers and boarders. That and most high class parks should go over their rails with files, not sure if they do tho?
