Are racing skis cool??????

On hard snow it's not even close how much faster a race ski is, both running flat and turning. They are fun to ski especially if you used to race. Everyday? No but still fun sometimes.

racing sikis are form like going maxing fucing fastnd owning shit everywhere. twin tipsa re for doing triple corkin 12s over moguls fa shooooooow.
jus ask that queet bag duebchebag monger bode miller that cunt throws sw 14s on his sick bacons but cant throw shit of his drunk ass jon ollsson twins racing skis.

i ski switch on my race skis all the timeafter skiing the course i pull a 1 off the mid mtn starting gate and ski to the lift switch

i still ski on my race skis from time to time...its not like i'm out in a GS suit or something. ski on what you want, race skis are fun and that's the reason people do it. who cares

saying twintips go just as fast as race skis would be like saying skiblades are just as good in the park as twin tips or jesus is as cool as chuck norris. race skis just have better technology for speed

i see where hes coming from though, but you still cant go just as fast, but you can go almost as fast, depending on both pairs of skis, and I have moment reno jibs(super fast park skis) and some volkl downhill skis that are pretty fast too. but my moments still dont go as fast as my volkls.

but compared to my race skis and cant hold an edge at all with my moments on ice. I only use my race skis on race days for me but i still think they can be almost as fun as just normal skis depending on the conditions.

definitely true: race skis are faster. also true: you can go fast on twin tips. false: you can ski a park ski like a race ski and not die.

after strictly skiing a world cup flex since i had the weight to pull 'em around, the comfort level (in terms of just ripping all-mountain stuff) on twin tips is monumentally lower. granted i have tons of fun on my twintips (98% of my free ski time i'll pick my armadas), there's no question that if i find myself on some icy steep, i'm going to be a hell of a lot more tentative than i would if i was on gs skis. race skis are just so much more stable in any situation--the control at speed is obviously far greater. if you try and ski your average twin tip like ANY race ski , you're gonna find yourself on your ass pretty quick. i definitely have to ease up when i'm on my arw's, if you even try and load up that ski, expect to eat shit...or at least be absolutely terrified by the crazy chattering.

sparknotes: race skis are just a completely different construction, and you can't try and push twin tips to perform at that level and get the same result...they're built for different things.

to the people who are STILL bashing racers...there are fags everywhere in every sport, so please stop being ignorant and give the non-douchebag racers the respect they deserve. no hate intended, just saying that even though you might hate the yankees, you have to respect derek jeter... and please please keep an open mind--not every kid you see on race skis or in a speed suit is a loserface, we love skiing too, and the cool ones love shredding park as much as you do.

to the thread creator: for sure pull out those gs skis and go rip some groomers...have fun!!

oh and this is kinda funny--i was in some race at beaver creek last weekend where this kid (who'd already skied out and fucked up his run) threw a 3 in the middle of the course and then crossed the finish switch. killin' it.

^ yo +karma for sure.

i agree with you 100%. and i'm just switching over to some arw's from skiing atomic GS skis for four years [i had atomic she devils too but only got to ride em twice before they were stolen] but the difference is astronomical.

and while i agree there are "gapers" in every sport, there are A LOT of douchey racers.

but then again there is almost zero mutual respect between the different types of skiing.

People honestly need to realize that race skis are whicked fun. As people said you can not do the same things you do on race skis with twin tips its just not possible. I have been ski racing for 8 years and I would not reccomend ever trying to race a Super G on twin tips. A.) it will be mad slow B.) if its steep your fucked... I ski on my race skis probably 5 days a week and only get to whip out my twins if theres some powder or i dont feel like ruining my race skis. Twin tips are extremely light and fun to ski the trees and ski park with throw down some random 3's and whatever else you want to. Race skis are much heavier but I still love to do 360's on my race skis even if im just jumping off the ground and doing it. If im going to pick out a pair of skis to ski on if im not skiing in the woods or pow its going to be a pair of race skis. Its just sooooo different from skiing on twin tips its not even comparable but i wouldnt reccomend skiing a heavy duty pair of race skis if you have never skied on a more soft less intense race ski it could be dangerous. If your going to actually buy a pair and have never skied race skis before i reccomend Rossignols because they are soft and easy to ski and definately not Blizzards, Nordicas, or Atomics. But Race Skis=AWESOME thats all i have to say

I think there are so many people on this site that truley dont know how to ski. Many of these super heady 13yos in their XXXL tall tees would get there shit rocked if they tried to ski on a pair of race sticks. I challenge someone to show me a pair of twins that can hold an edge better on ice and that can carve quicker than a pair of Race SLs or GSs for that matter.
Also, race skis are almost always faster. Higher grade base structures will do that for a ski. I feel I can say that b/c from working in a shop and tuning all my own shit, that my dumonts are definitly slower after being stoneground and ran through a hotbox multiple times than the Elans SLs/GSs that I will take out an ski for a few runs.
I just dont understand all the racing hate on NS. I can understand hating on racers that are DBs, but a lot of them are just doing what they love, and that is SKIING. Last time I checked, thats what I love doing.

WHAT! guys DH skis run about 215 cm. i'm not saying that you're making it up, but i can practically guarantee that you've been misinformed. either that or this dude is super man. throwing anything but a nasty carve down is pretty much impossible on speed skis.

oh and Geoffrey...really, now? this is the stupidest thing you've ever seen? your argument is watertight.

i share a t bar with the racers at my mountain. and the only reason they run the tbar is for racers to practice and races.

hahahahahahahahahaha, that made me laugh too. Cool McCool thinks they're cool, and I have a pair, I don't really use them anymore, but if I wanna have a throwback old school day ill use them.

I never raced, never tried race skis, prob never will. It is just not something that interests me.

that being said...if they interest you, do it. it's the whole purpose of skiing, enjoying what you are doing.

Why are twintips cool?Because they're fun.Why are race skis cool?Because they're fun.
Seriously guys, get out on a pair of race skis for a day and you will have so much fun, assuming you're a good skier. That's all that really needs to be said on the matter.

if you've never skied on race skiis than youre missing, out. the feeling of carving deep, smooth turns all the way down a run at max speed is amazing;

and if you want to ride race skis you actually need to know how to ski

I like to wear my purple conspiracy suit and racetigers people think your a wackjob then you light their ass up in the gates then click into the twins and show them your diverse.

F1 cars have no reverse but they still beat the living crap out of any other car... (on the track)same goes for race skis....(on the groomers)

That's only because anyone on here who is going to rock some racing skis won't be willing to give up their 15 tall tees and pants that are 2-3 sizes too big. You can only go so fast when you are dressed like a parachute.

yeah, sometimes i break out my racing skis for a few runs. Anyone cant just ski straight park the whole season. It is actually fun to carve a few turns on the groomers. It really is good to do once in a while for me, because it takes out all the pressure of park skiing. You just feel all relaxed and not worrying about what trick you'll learn next etc...

I think racing is fun. I race on the high school ski team which is not serious I just do it to get out of school but i think people start to stereotype races as rich asswipes who thnk they own the mountain which is not true I know some sick racer kids but there are a decent crop of racers who dont give you racers a good name. Those racers stick out in my mind. Bad thing always stick out more then good thus some asswipe races ruined racers reputations.

nope, racing skis definitely have a base that is more porous and can hold more wax, so they crush twin tips, other than the pipecleaners because they have that base too
