i just think that humans in general are on a decline on the whole intelligence thing... ex. a girl told me i couldnt drive to alaska (later found out thats cuz its on an inlet on the map) im just kinda losing faith in people as a whole
 
Well first problem is you were talking to a woman and woman are usually a lot dumber. Don't worry, people aren't getting dumb, women are just dumb, usually.

Funny , but at the same time, so, so, sad. Women are trained to simply be good looking fuck dolls who marry rich in today's society. Thankfully, a lot reject this cultural training, but there are still far too many who buy wholeheartedly into that persona.
 
its strange, because the ones who act that way get noticed and the ones who dont act that way... dont get noticed.

society is allowing themselves to become more and more influence by the media and big corporations. they r being told what to do more and more every year and r losing the ability to think for themselves. also becoming for dependant on technology is making us lazy
 
it's because we've eliminated natural selection. i wouldn't be surprised if we're actually going back in the evolution process. that's why i say we release a few thousand man-eating big cats into all the major cities and let nature decide what's up. survival of the fittest competition!
 
survival of the fittest and evolution are all still on track, they don't go backwards they just change. We are selecting numerous things that are less than desireable in the context of surviving a catastrophe. Smaller waists, less body hair, larger children (coincides with the increase in c-sections) but on the flip side we are apparently selecting larger cranial cases.
 
you should watch idiocracy. its a low budget film by the makers of bevis and butthead about tthe deevlolution of mankind. its funny and a bit scary to think about.
 
You're probialy just getting smarter and noticing that people arent getting dumber, thats just how its always been.
 
Dumb people are getting louder is all. Everyone has an opinion, even if they don't know what the hell is going on.
 
I feel the same way sometimes. When I was at Kings Island in Ohio over the summer, I heard an aoorix 12 year old boy tell his dad about how cool the Washington Mounument was. He then asked his dad is he knew that there were no wires or guides holding up the monument. To which his dad said no way was that possible. I had a little mental geekout in my mind.
 
I dont need anyone to tell me my opinion matters, i'm quite confident that it does. Yours though, I'm not so sure anyone cares.
 
speaking of women. my friend told me that this girl in his class asked " if a bomb hit this classroom what would happen?"
 
There actually is a "dumbing-down" of Western society that has been gradually increasing over the years.

Ironically (to this thread) women are the ones getting "smarter" and the men are the ones dumbing down. Just in 2001, 56% of newly enrolled university students were women.

 
ahahah the other day we were doing a physics lab, shooting a marble straight up and it hit the ceiling. the girl asked if it would have gone higher if the ceiling wasnt there

and in math, we had to fill out some survey about colleges we wanted to go to and such. you had to fill in the college name and then the abbreviation for the state. the girl asked what was the abbreviation for Boston.
 
i think its more that humans, specifically young people like ourselves are indirectly being de-sensitized to thinking for ourselves, exploration, and philosophy. In an age where machines do everything but eat and take a shit for you, Paris Hilton has her own TV show, and an enormous number of people really think Lil' Wayne is the best rapper alive, kids and young adults are bound to think being dumb is "cool". Why should there be any substance...everything's done for me and that's good enough.

Schools don't escape of the blame, too. Grades are earned by cheating, memorization,and formula. Unless you're a philosophy/english major or something (I'm not) chances are you won't be challenged to think beyond what's in front of you.

Luckily, there are people who disregard the "dumbing down" of culture and try to encourage something more (take Lupe who actually has a song called "dumb it down"). There are others obviously beyond rap.

Sorry for the long post...just my thoughts. Oh, and the woman thing was hilarious and sadly true in not all but too many cases.
 
Ya, not hating on all girls, but some just don't have common sense.

One of my friends (who is a girl) has never understood a joke anyone has told her in like her entire life.

She just can't put it together and understand the humor. And she isn't challenged, she is smart, aperantly, she gets 80's.

Though, there are some guys who are dumb as shit. But it depends who you talk to.

To conclude, I don't think society as a whole is getting dumber, it's just that there are more people who have no common sense. Not everyone, just more cases of dumb people. There are still many smart people, and they are getting smarter, but the dumb people are getting dumber, so it's more noticeable.

It's a little ironic that you called the inset an "inlet." It wouldn't be funny at all in any other context than saying someone is dumb for not understanding what it is.

 
I don't think women are necessarily dumber then men, I just think that many of them lack common sense.
 
I vote for this. We should also cut off the electricity, and there wouldn't be any guns allowed. This plan is great.

by the way, i only thought of that idea because i can run faster than almost everyone i know (claim) haha, i don't need to outrun the carnivores, just my friends.
