Are my skis too big for me?!?!?!

So i had wayyyyy outgrown my most recent pair of skis that were155 cm, and i knew it was time for new skis. so i bought 2013 Moment Jibs in 176 and they came today and go just barely over my head, and i was all pumped up for winter, but then my dad said they were way too big for me and that i wouldnt be able to pull my usual flips and other tricks and get them around... and since i value his opinion i started to regret my decision of skipping over the 160s into the 170 cm range, but i wanted to check ns to see what you guys think because you guys have never let me down!!!

I am about 5' 8 1/2" and the skis go barely over my head with bare feet. With ski boots on i think they would be like right at my forehead

I would love your opinion guys

+k to all replies thanks!

Dude I did the exact same thjing. I had line masterminds 157 and the upgraded to 178 Line anthems. The anthems are a couple of inches obove my head. At first it seemed like it was going to be really hard to use them. But after about a day I could still do all the same tricks. It doesnt really make that much of a difference.

You'll be more than fine. I'm around 5'8" right now and I am considering a pair of 177's. Right now I'm on 168's though so I'll probably wait another season.

Unless you don't know how to ski, you will be fine. Sounds like your dads just jealous of your sick twin tips. He's obviously trying to get them from you by spouting nonsenses.

I'm 5'9'' and ride 176 AR7s. they feel short.

Your dad is crazy. As long as you aren't a goomba, you'll be fine.

For reference, I'm only an inch an a half taller than you and I ski on 185s. They go well over my head and you will not feel anything but positives come out of the extra length.

I'm 5'8" and I ski 181 rockered skis and 176 cambered skis in the park, they're not too big at all, they're actually perfect. They may take some getting used to at first, but everything new does, but after a couple of runs you'll be very happy with longer skis, so much more stable.

im 5'9 and ski 184s in the park...i dont know why there are so many kids riding around on fuckin snowblades...i really do not notice any difference in my ability to spin or getting on rails, and my skis are SOOO much more stable at speeds(in combination with their 25m radius), seems to help with switch landings a bit too.

Your new skis will be faster. Dont sweat it! It will make you a better skier to run on longer boards and you will learn to throw tricks with them just the same. You are riding MAN ski's now son.

I'm 6'1" and ride 191 Caylors and 184 Step Ups. You're fine. It's definitely weird at first though, I went from 168 Blends to my stepups and it felt super weird for the first couple days.
