Are judged sports fair?

gotta write an essay on why judged sports shouldn't be in the olympics. any points for this argument ...not against it

It's totally subjective. Without concrete unchanging numbers there's no way to definitely say one thing was better than another.

Nobody can argue with 1:32 being faster than 1:35 but anyone can argue with someone's opinion on style.

If you ask a judge from France-it's fair.

If you ask a judge from anywhere else- it's biased

at least for figure skating a few years back... Definitely include that example in your essay. Wasn't that in salt lake? Someone help out my failing memory

it's fair if i win, unfair if i don't.

seriously tho, think of speed skating or track and field. Those aren't judged sports, but competitors, coaches and fans will almost always complain that the winning team had some "unfair" advantage - whether it be new type of shoe or skate, or new training program or better facilities or more money...etc

kinda like what your dad told ya when you were a kid; life's not fair :(

i think that they should stay in there, since "timed" sports also have issues in a very similar way. just think of alpine skiing, someone decided to use hill X for the olympics. maybe its steeper, bumpier or longer than other hills. so some skiers have already a disadvantage because they are good gliders and the hill is to steep or they like to get in a rhythm and there are bumbs and changes all over the place. furthermore, some guy sets the course, adding another form of judgement.
same goes for biathlon (i cant believe you guys over there feeling nothing for that sport), crosscountry, nordic combination, ski jumping, etc...
rarely is a sport providing equal possibilites for anyone, in the winter olympics i can only think of speed skating. controlled environment and not regarding minor ice-differences, you can really say that the BEST guy at this date won.

bottom line: no sport goes without judgement in any way, so the obvious judged sports have no reason to be eliminated
