Standard expression when I go skiing with the lads... 'strap your cock on me love, let's go' (yep i'm english)

(either that, or 'balls out the back pocket Lorna').

I love skiing, love pushing myself.

I WOULD love to go riding with a heap of hardcore girls for a change, or just have a girly progession session in the park. Doesn't seem to happen, can't find any/whatever. Is it just Europe? There's so few in comparison to the lads....

snowboarding's not that much better, although there are more girls...

Why do you reckon it is?

Is it a lonely place for a girl?

Keeping up with the lads too hard?

Is it fun to be one of the few girls pushing it?

Is it embarrassing to go in the park and suck?

(sometimes i'm told to 'stop skiing like a girl' (!) on a day's riding with the lads)

There arent many girls out there, I wish I had some girls to ski with. It seems as though most girls get into snowboarding instead.

I don't know exactly what I'm trying to say in my paper. I'm starting the research for it now.

I personally think there's more guys than girls in freestyle skiing and snowboarding. The paper is an attempt to delve deeper than that and make educated guesses about why this is.

There could be heaps of reasons... most people just say that girls aren't hardcore enough.

I don't agree fully... I think there are other reasons in addition to, or even in place of a lack of testosterone.

However, girls that do push the barriers in sports are openly welcomed (comments from guys like 'we love girl skiers, they're hot' etc) yet there still aren't many...

I've got lots of different ideas and avenues, i'm just trying to see what people think. Also, I haven't been to North America skiing since 2001/2002 and so don't know how further on the girls in the park are than in Europe. Plus, i'm in scotland, which makes it even harder!

The thesis is a (human) geography/sociology papers and is called

'Are Women Really Wimps? Gender Identities in the Terrain Park'

think it might be a mixture of lots of things. Many of them psychological.

i don't think balls actually make guys try harder...

Girls definitely have some physical limitations but it doesnt seem like it's something that would be a very big deal in skiing. I think it's just cause girls are girls and are traditionally more afraid to do something that might get them hurt.

Getting started is the hardest part. Although a lot has changed, I remember how hard it was for me to get over the fact that I was goign to embarrass myself. Once people start supporting you more its gets a lot easier to try. I guess what I'm trying to say is that the reason girls arent as hardcore in general could be becuase they think about it to much, as opposed to just goign for it.

 
I dont want to speak for all women, so I am going to speak for myself. For me, its definitely more a mental thing that is holding me back. I pick things up just as fast as guys, and I have the athleticism. I definitely second guess myself, and let my mind get in the way.

im a girl, and i admit i wuss out a lot more than the guys do. It's tuff to learn tho cuz most guys assume i cant ski, so i dun got many people who wanna ski wit me cept ppo who arent so great and just wanna ski socially.

 
also, i heard about sumthin in my anthro class how self-preservation is hardwired into a girl's instinct to increase the chances of her kids survival.

 
yeah, there must be some sort of physical limitation, because female skiers are always worse than the male skiers at the higest level, but still better than most of the guys out there.

i'm not necessarily sure that's true either. i think all that it takes to be a damn good skier is a passion for the sport. if you can love it enough not to fear it, then the progression will come in time....and you'll be a bad ass skier to be reconed with. (balls or not)

i think guys are much more competitive too, like you always gotta be better the other guy, girls don't have that natural instinct of compition. guys also don't always think things through and just do something that seem's like a good idea at the time (but in reality its just moronic).

 
I definatly think this is a testosterone driven sport, and girls are generally a lot more timid trying things then guys
