Are 176cm skis too big for someone 5'6"?

Hey guys, I'm helping my friend find a pair of park skis, as he's looking to learn some new things this year. He's 5'6" and I found a pair of Armada AR-7's that are 176cm. He's a little worried about them being to long for him, what do you guys think? Also, what brands would you recommend ? He's looking for something that he can use in the park and the rest of the mountain. Thanks!

He's completely new to park. He can't slide rails or throw anything. He's starting new but he's been skiing downhill for a long time. He usually skis glades and harder trails.

I'm 5'11", and I think that 176-182 is a perfect size for me. I ride 182 Armada Halos, but my next skis are going to be just a little bit shorter I think. For your buddy, 176 might be a bit long, but I'm sure it's not TOO irregular. I bet lots of people that height ski ~176 skis. Personally, I would go shorter.

There's lots of skis that would be good for park and all mountain. On3p Jeronimos and the AR7 are two that pop up in my head right away. Good luck to your buddy.

So it sounds like the general consensus is for something a little shorter than 176cm for him. What length would be good?

Shorter would be better and they are usually cheaper and easier to find. Ill take those 176s off your hands though.

Just go 171. If he is learning a shorter ski will make it much easier. Remember yet are park skis so won't last that long, so by the time he progresses and wants bigger skis he will be ready for new skis any way.

everyone in this thread except for me obviously is fucking dumb. 176's will be GREAT for him. centermounted, they will be super easy to ski and anything less with feel like snowblades.

He will progress way faster, become a better skier, and be stoked he didnt go shorter.

I'm 5'6 and don't ski anything shorter than 180

176 will be fine. espcially if he knows how to ski already. Don't let him waste his money on new skis. Get something used or discounted.

It's personal preference. I'm 5'11 and 170lbs and can ski a 176. I have also been skiing for 25 years. So should a beginner who is 5 inches shorter then me be on the same size ski, probably not. Could he ski them if he gets them, sure but he won't progress a fast. Better to buy shorter then in a couple of seasons time when he has progressed an needs new skis anyway he can reevaluate wht size he wants then.

Really depends on ability and preference. Personally i'm 5'7" and I found skiing on 170's to be too short last year so I got 176's for this year. I also have a friend who is over six feet and skis 170's and loves it.
