Are 169's too small?

Alright so I just bought the volkl walls and the shop didnt have 177's which i planned on getting and only had 169's. the guy i talked to who seemed to know his stuff convinced me that 177 was too big anyways and that I didnt need any bigger..i am 5'11 and 165lb. is size a big deal and what is the advantages/disadvantages of having a bigger ski? I am aware that there are a billion other threads on ski size, but i dont have the time to read through a ton of threads.
 
definitely wait and find the right size. those skis would look and feel retardedly small on you. bigger skis are a lot more stable, and help with landings on jumps. i skied 151's a bit more than half the season last year and it sucked a lot. then i got 171's and it made my skiing and enjoyment a lot better. size is key.
 
my bad, well i already bought the skiis and if i return them i doubt I will be able to get the correct size because they sell out really fast
 
169 are toooo small for you. at 5'11", i would say 177 would be an ok size, for reference i am 5'7" and i have 175 ARV's. i know that everyone's preferences are different, but i say you return them
 
tell the dude at the shop to put your name on them as soon as he gets them in. and say that you will definitely buy them. josh did that for me at jibij and i'm 2800 miles away.
 
I'm 5'10 and I ride 189 seth pistols. Longer is definitely the way to go. 169 will feel really tiny. For someone your height, 175 would be the minimum I would go.

There are still plenty of Vokl Wall's out there that I've seen so don't be rushed into buying skis that don't fit you.
 
177 would have been perfect for you. The shop guy was just trying to sell his shit.

A guy who seemed to know what he was talking about told me that the 2 year old foil would be a perfect -bomb proof all mountian/ powder ski... i told him he didnt knowwhat he was talking about and walked out
 
None of you guys can just say "NO, 169's WON'T WORK."

You never even asked him what he likes to ride.... like jeezeeeee use ur brains.

What do you ride? If ur a park rat who jibs mass amounts of rails.... shorter is easier for that trciky shtuff
 
but if u like to cruise, or just hit tables a ton, longer is more stable like someone stated above. You can pull out of stuff easier if u land off balance
