What does everyone think of these guys. Apparently going to be the next big thing to come out of the UK. There song "I bet you look good on the dance floor" is growing on me.
 
^Hardly, They are from my hometown (Sheffield) and went from having noone heard of them to having the fastest selling single in UK history within a year. Managed to see them at a small venue that i worked at just as they were getting known, and even then £15 tickets were going for over £80. Now it is impossible to get hold of them. Listen to When the sun goes down and ritz to rubble.
 
yeah, but they had such an intense fanbase everywhere before they even released a record. people already formed an opinion that theyre the greatest band since _____ before even hearing the whole record. i really just think they sound incredibly generic and cant see myself listening to the few decent/super catchy songs for more than a month without becoming disgusted with myself (..as i did with kaiser chiefs, etc. etc.). so yeah, im gonna have to agree with this tiny mixtapes review

but thats just my opinion. although i dont think theres anyone in the world who could disagree with the fact that the arctic monkeys is one of the worst band names ever...
 
I think that the problem with them over in the states is that they don't really understand what they are singing about (not taking the piss here). A lot of it is about life in England (up north mainly) and i guess thats pretty hard for a lot of Americans to understand. That review did not really put up a good arguement to why they are crap, for example 'Arctic Monkeys sing about girls and drinking and being famous' is a stupid comment, as i can't think of song in which they do that. After all, they don't like the idea of being famous, and most of the songs were written when only a few people in Sheffield knew about them.

Maybe its because of the fact that the lyrics don't relate to your side of pond, and maybe that could limit their success over there until they get more widely accepted and have played some more gigs. All i know is that over here they've brought together a wide cross section of society who appreciate the music. When i saw them the last time they played in Sheff before the world tour, we had skaters singing with football hooligans stood next to 40 somethings. You don't see that very often.

Download some more songs (and translate some lyrics) and see what you think, i reckon you will like. Don't watch the SNL show though...apparently it wasn't too good.
 
would be cool if they´ll bring it to a band that doesnt go under and is presentitive even during the next 5/-10 years
 
Artic monkeys RULE! I'm from the UK and about a year ago no one had heard of them and know they are huge...they sing with leeds accents so Americans probably wont understand half of it.But you have to download some of their stuff tho its so good
 
at first i thought that there music sucked ass but it grew on me and now i am quite into and its not just coz they from my home town
 
Just watched them play live, Seriously the Arctic Monkeys blow chunks. I do not like them a scant figure out why everyone does, I mean I like EVERYTHING! Black Keys on next sweet deal hope they're sick
