Arapahoe BASIN... WTF!!??

Uhh... ok. Its may 30th, and they just got an inch of snow... with about 20 runs open. They own the land, so they dont abide by the forrest service regs on closing times, and theyre always open as long as they have snow.

Just discovered theyre closing on june 5th... like a week from now, and i have no idea why... anyone know why theyre closing so early?

probably like most places. when the seasons wind down people lose interest and when there arent enough people to make it profitable to keep the place running they close. costs alot to run a mountain everyday

i heard a rumor that they're closing early to start construction/remodeling of the base lodge

they are remodeling some of the base area. but also so much snow has melted off in the past week it's unbelievable. and it was raining there yesterday.

the basin is sick all year but it gets sicker as the spring goes on.

think about hittin loveland pass. there was some real cool step ups and shit like 2 weeks ago- not sure if they are stil there

Yeah it says on their site the reason their closing is to renovate the old rental building.

they had like 2 people die on an open run because of an avalanche just like a week or something ago! pretty discouraging for people to want to pay money to go there. so umm..that could have something to do with it. tis a shame

it was only one guy from boulder who didn't even have a chance. and i don't think it deterred many people. you should have seen all the drunken debauchery on sunday. soooo many people and soooo many dogs.

they are going to start building a new base area this summer...so they have to close early in order to finish by opening day this up coming season. a basin is tight right now, good condish

I have heard that they are building some new shit, but I'm not sure what- so far I've heard restaurant or lodge
 
there was a big thread about this a lil while ago....people were fighting about weather it was because its unprofitable or because of the midlodge constructoin....
 
im going on saturday... anything good left. their site says the park is open, but does anyone know what they have up, rails jumps?
