Arapahoe Basin open date

They are making snow now.

Temps look halfway decent for a day or two then another day or two end of week.

Open with a ribbon of death? Wouldn't doubt it.

I've heard from numerous people that it will supposedly open on the 7th. I can't officially confirm this, but I haven't heard anything that will prove it wrong. Al's blog doesn't seem to prove this date wrong either.

sooon enough and witht the storm this weekend it could very well open up next week. 6-12 inches waddup. it's not opening monday tho

It refers to the one run every resort opens up before they get the rest of the runs open. The run inevitably becomes an ice luge.. Add in some gaper talent and you have the ribbon of death.

It's still nice just to get some turns in right when the mountain opens. Also high-speed gaper dodging should be an Olympic event IMO

when they open its just one run so its like this little white strip with way too many skiers on it. its a glorious shitshow. but idgaf about a bay, i'll be at loveland away from the epic pass people.

i mean kind of. Pali is north facing and usually fills in pretty well by february, and montezuma can usually open by march. If A-bay could relocate to utah or BC, it would be one of the top 5 north american resorts without a doubt. But even as it is, its pretty epic.

Can't forget upper east wall. Some gnar stuff, especially for summit county. If ABay was in Utah or PNW could you imagine skiing that for the majority of the season instead of for a few scattered weeks? Shit would be crazy

I was actually there when it was open last season. I was so godamm happy because they were really on and off about opening it up last season when I was there. I skied and hiked about 10 total laps over 1.5 days.

One more reason A-Basin is awesome. Instead of adding groomers and probably medium diff bowls like Breck is this season, the Legend is adding real terrain in the Beavers.

I hope Breck gets peak 6 open this year. If it keep snowing like it is it wont happen. theres no physical lift structures even constructed yet.

Thanks for posting that A basin expansion plan. that looks awesome!!!

the wall has never been open when im there, but god damn it looks gnar. I did get Pali on its opening day 2 years ago, and even in kind of low snow it was amazing.

within 10 years. But the USFS is already scoping stuff out and I am pretty sure they made a good amount of progress already over the summer. 10 years is a pretty short time frame especially since they do not get much help from Vail and it is much more than adding new terrain

Check Al's blog, there is info scattered throughout there

Pretty much this. The east wall is a fucking trip and I've only been there 4 or 5 days it's been good. But shit, when it's on it's ON.

Although Beavers will have more gnarly terrain, Peak 6 has some great cliff bands on it that should prove to be damn huckable.

Here's what Pali Pitch's blog from A Basin says as of today:

-I don't know when we are going to open yet.

-We have made more than 50% of the snow we need to open.

-We hope to make snow all day Saturday. (Please cooperate Mother Nature)

-Saturday and Sunday nights look good for snowmaking.

-The forecast is for rising temps Monday night.

-While not yet ready to open, we are in a great place.

-Stay tuned and enjoy the pictures.

Looks like they could be open in the next week. Not by the 7th though. They usually open mid-week so I bet they'll open for the storm coming in Thurs/Fri or just after it.

The expansion will further make A-basin's terrain better than the rest of summit county. They already have pali, montezuma, and east wall, and with the expansion they will add this:

Oh yes it will, but how many years will you have to wait before you wont have to dodge gapers sidestepping the cliff bands just so they can buy a t shirt that says they skied peak 6 (not to mention the lift lines)

Overall I am pretty excited for peak 6, but am not excited about how much hype it will be getting and the crowds I will have to deal with. I am anticipating much less hype for the Beavers among tourists.

i was in the mountains this weekend and a basin has a really good amount of snow for this time of year. like i was shocked at how much snow was on loveland pass so hopefully a basin opens soon.

The Beavers would be part of A Basin... Beaver creek opened up some new terrain a couple years ago but that's not what was being referenced

From Al's Blog

"The Storm has arrived. It is snowing fairly heavily right now. The temps are still in the 30's. Over the next couple of hours those temps should drop well into the 20's. We are expecting a pretty good night of snowmaking.

The snowcat drivers began dozing and pushing out the High Noon whales. As we expected, good coverage in most areas. The weak link is in the base area. With the forecasted snow and snowmaking conditions, we will get that fixed in no time. Keep checking in."

i have heard the steep gullies are staying closed, which doesn't surprise me considering how often they slide... the beavers is the mellower trees to the lookers right of the photo.

From looking at the master plan and from what I have picked up from the blog, articles, etc, the steep gullies are going to probably have a similar situation to Upper East Wall where they could only be open a few days a year. It will be closely monitored by ski patrol and will be hiking terrain only.

dude shut the fuck up a basin hasnt set an opening day yet and im 100% sure you dont work there.

oh man i hope it opens wednesday or thursday because i wont have school. and i really want to be there opening day.

that was my first guess last week, but honestly I could see monday being opening day pretty easily. Just looking at the cams they have the snow all the way spread out at the base area, now they just need to spread it out up the hill a little further. probably only 2 days worth of work If I had to guess.
