AR7 weird laminate/cap construction

i cant find anything about the tech armada is using to put together theyre ar7s. i have 9/10 ar6s and the sidewalls look completely different. i know theyre supposed to be lighter, but are they more durable, less durable? idk +karma thanks

Its their AR50 sidewall. Should be on their tech page if you just click on the link. Sidewall underfoot for stability and better ride and then cap in the tips/tails to make it lighter swing weight and bit more durable.

thanks man ill pick some up as soon as my twall fts get sold haha

also youre really close to 420 karma, thats always exciting :D

Well even though this laminate cap combo is lighter, I have heard it is quite a bit less durable. If you were to sustain an impact at the tip or the tail of your ski (ie where the topsheet is capped) you would be much more likely to blow out an edge due to less material supporting the edge from a vertical aspect.

this does kinda concern me. i see why they include it on park skis for weight reduction... but i wish their pow/big mountain skis like the TST and JJ would have a full-length wood core.

According to one of the Ohio Dreams coaches, AR50 seems like a pretty brilliant move by Armada. He was riding AR7's and JJ's all last season and will be adding some JJ AK's to his quiver, all of which feature AR50.

He feels that there is very noticeable difference in the weight/swing weight of the skis(skis with AR50 feeling lighter), however he feels they ski just as well as something that is exclusively sidewall construction. Also, despite a tip first, direct hit to some metal supports under a box, he hasn't had any issues with durability.

Hope that helps!
