i made plans to ski mammoth over spring break in late april

how does the mountain and all the terrain hold up this late in the season???

Of course it depends on they year. But mammoth is regarded as one of the best spots to be in April. The spring skiing is consistently epic from what I've heard and seen by the snowfall totals. Went there over spring break last year and got about 30 inches over a day.

About 2/3 of the lifts close late in April. That will be on April 24, 2011 this year. There's still a ton of terrain, just not quite as much as usual.

Mammoth still gets a ton of snow in the spring. Like well into May. Odds are there will be at least one storm if you're here for a week. And the parks are legit in the spring. Although you're probably going to be forced to ride the lifts with a bunch of pros because almost every other resort closes in April.

if you thread title ended in ... I would just have added "is the shit."

Sunny warm skies, bikini runs, killer park and the occasional dump for some fun pow.

Mammoth is awesome in April. Some of the funnest skiing all season for me last year.

And everything Tandan said is true.

are all the bowls and chutes at the top still open...

ive been looking them up on youtube and they all look sick

Yeah, that stuff usually stays open right up until the end. I was skiing the chutes next to Chair 23 last year on closing day July 5th.

Depends on the year but I've been there for spring break the last 5 years and it snowed while I was there 4 of them and twice got epic fucking storms (even had a storm so big one year they were closed the first day). Usually the entire mountain is open with enough deep snow to ride all the sidecountry and all that good stuff. All chutes open, cliff drops possible etc. Last year snow was so deep I was skiing stuff that it usually is not even physically possible to ski cause its just rocks, and they had a massive jump on the backside they were filming on. Year before last it was a dirt fest with bad coverage but even then pretty much the whole mountain was open.
Give or take it'll be amazing either way but chances are it will be epic, at least in my experience. I'll most likely be there this spring break too.
