April Euro Pow

Sorry for dropping this in the gabber, BUT I just want to know from any euros or people who are/have been there if the snow is still good (does it still snow?) in APRIL. Colorado has some of the best pow days in April... wondering if the Alps deliver as well.

Also, when is the best time for pow in the Alps (strongest storm cycles, etc)? Feb-March?

Thanks

From personal experience I would say march. But if you wanna know more, get in contact with this guy:

He's a friend of mine who just works or predicting the best pow conditions in Europe the whole season. He's also one of the guys that developed the Salomon Powfinder app.I'm sure he can give you some advise on good spots. Have fun!

Hey,

Val Thorens (VT) is high and gets good snow. I did a season in Meribel, the valley next door in 06/07 which was really bad for snow, it was +20C in resort(1450m) mid january. But i was skiing over in VT until the end of April no problem. The park there is good Check it out here:

As for La Plagne and Les arcs i@ve been late season and i though the skiing was more limited.

And for pow it all depends on the season, maybe check the post above.

yes but go high
im going tignes in april and i have before at that time of year
it like 3500 at the top so if its gonna rain/ snow it will snow up there
also it has reallly good terrain really impressive
refresh shot a segment there

I skied knee deep pow all week last April in Alpe D'Huez. Awesome!!!
Mind you I think we got amazingly lucky. I'm sure the local guides will know some spots!!

I was just going to post that when i was in alpe d'huez last april it was awesome pow!

Got up early everyday with my pow skis; skied trees until about 1 then back for lunch to pick up my park setup and then hit the park in the slush... good times!

My advice is to go high; also don't expect too much; european resorts aren't very reliable when it comes to snow conditions. Also if you are going proper offpiste take a guide and be properly kitted out because conditions can suddenly change from fresh pow to fresh slush/slabs in a matter of hours that late in the season; especially if the sun is out. Have fun though! I'll be in la plange/les arcs around that time this year. Praying for pow!

hay you know that april is late any where in the world , all depend on the weather at that time in the area but I would go earlier in the season, your chances are much better for good pow than near the end of the season when the temps get warmer and you have spring skiing, good luck man

Yes, go high. Anywhere in the Alps during April that gets big snows will be by chance as opposed to being expected. Also, the best chance for snow in the Alps is usually Jan - Feb. One other thing, you didn't mention your budget, but Val Thorens isn't cheap.
