Applying grip tape (longboard)

Hey guys, i have a question about making a custom grip design on my longboard. Basically my board will look like this

And i wanna line the entire middle section with lines of grip tape, instead of just layering the entire board. I want some thin lines with spaces between while gradually getting thicker lines.

how would i go about doing this? Would i apply the grip tape over the board entirely, and then exacto knife the cut outs out? Or would i chalk out what i need onto my tape, and then cut and paste kinda thing?

put the tape on the deck just like you would any other deck then cut out the pieces you dont want in there. simple as pie

just a heads up dont make it too thin, any less than like .25 of a cm will probably rip eventually

Grip tape is sort of too thick to exacto knife, I would just use sissors unless your getting really detailed

straight grip on a real skateboard is probably your best bet. not arts and crafts on one that looks like someone forgot how to use a jigsaw.

cut it into strips before you put it on its harder but is probably a better plan

wow thats actually the same sort of thin I did, stripes and checkers. Yours came out way better.

its so much easier to cut them out first and then put it on. if you cut too deep with its already on the board its gonna fuck up the wood

I have two similar custom decks, one I left ungripped. Its really nice to cruise barefoot on, and looks nice. But I wouldn't really recommend charging any hills on it. The one I have gripped rips though!

make sure the top of the deck is clean so the griptape sticks well (you can clean it with water, just make sure its good and dry before adding the tape). Then just cut up the grip tape with an exacto knife by cutting on the backside of the tape (so the knife doesn't get pwned by the grit) and apply!

Its super easy to do so dont worry about that. I had never grip taped anything before i got my M1 and all i had locally was normal sized skateboard griptape so i came up with the following design to make a tiny sheet cover the whole board.

Remember to post up your griptape design when you get it done!
