Apple's iPhone!

weird thing is that it's really more of a PDA than anything, so its kinda weird to name it the iPhone.

its just a Apple PDA, still looks sweet but ya

This thing is ssooooo sick, I've been an apple hater my whole life and this thing just blows me away. Hopefully its solid and doesnt break too easily but I'm thinking about switching to cingular just so i can get this awesome thuing

What the fuck? Only 5 hours battery? If that's true than that really sucks.

Battery

  • Up to 5 hours Talk / Video / Browsing
  • Up to 16 hours Audio playback

that looks soooo sikk but id rather just wait till next december wen it will be like 50-75 bucks cheaper with a bigger variety of plans u can get

considering everything it does, and considering it's intended as a business phone that is synched every day (and therefore charged everyday) i don't see the battery life as being that big of a deal. sure it sucks for someone like us who would buy it an use it mainly as an mp3 player and a phone, but for the everyday business man who walks into his office, sits down at his desk and puts his iphone into it's cradle, it really isn't that bad at all. and that's 5 hours of TALK time....time you're actually speaking to someone through the phone.

the price is really not that bad at all, considering everything it does.

yes but there are other options out there that are cheaper and have better battery that have the same features.

and i doubt that this product will be used by mainly bussiness men

why even have the media capabilities then?

i think that apple is trying to meet so many needs that this device does too many things, and not a few things well.

the every day business man doesnt use his PDA for watching movies or tv shows, or buying MP3s off itunes.

it isnt really up to par with other portable meida players either.

i think the only thing selling this product is its cool factor, but i admitidly have to do some more research

why would anybody buy that peice of shit when you can buy a leigt phone from a real ohone company...gay

they should have made two devices

Business

-drop video play back

-drop the music player

-reduce the pixels

-add a keyboard

-reduce the memory

-add an SD slot

-drop the price a couple hundred

Media(Ipod)

Revamp the ipod with:

-Wi-Fi

-Built in Itunes store

-wide screen

-tablet PC style design, so that the click wheel and the screen are not on the same face

-Up the battery life

this thing simply cant be a good media player, its not designed to be. my point is why should the business man have to add an extra $150 onto the price of the smart phone?

that means 5 hours if youre on the phone/browsing the internet for 5 hours. lg's chocolate, and other phones only last like 3.5 hours while talking, therefore the iphone is superior in battery life, but they never told us how much standby battery it has.

the cingular only shit sucks. badly. cingular doesnt get real good reception where i live, and ive already got verizon.

5 hours talk time is 300 minutes. Look up your phones specs, chances are you have about the same.

16 hours audio playback is lower than most ipods now, but guess what, this thing is more than just an ipod. If you want a music player only, the option is available to you.

When you think about it, how often are you without power to recharge? If you are at the office and are talking on your iphone, you could have it plugged into a power source, or more likely, you'd use the land line to make phone calls and your computer to send email. On the road? Many options are available for phone chargers. Plug the thing in, make the phone call, put it on speakerphone, set the thing down and continue driving. Away at a conference? Likely to be in meetings/seminars where you aren't using your phone, and if the need arises there is going to be either a dedicated speakerphone for conference calls or a power source for your iphone won't be too far away. Skiing all day? Guess what, you'll be skiing, not talking on your phone for 5 hours, and 16 hours of audio playback is a lot more than you can use skiing for a day. Plug the thing in when you get back to your car/hotel room.

Yes this thing may require you to have a charger on hand when you go on weekend trips, or force you to buy a car charger, but it still beats taking both a cell phone and ipod around.

The price will probably be a turn off for many, especially in the business world. The touchscreen wireless Qwerty keyboard may not work as a real one on the outside of a blackberry, that remains to be seen. Also, many professionals who use blackberrys probably won't care about the music features or even colour, and thats fine, there are cheap options out there available to them. But for many younger people or people who love gadgets, this is an opportunity to combine 2 everyday things in a very usable package. Barring any major issues in the first couple months, I'll be trying to get one when it comes to Canada. I can justify the cost because I need to get a blackberry anyway and I can ditch my razr and sell my ipod. I'd have to pay for the voice/data service plan anyway.

yeah but the keyboard they have is a touchscreen one and supposedly works tons better than the opnes with the pinner ass plastic keys

why the FUCK did they not put a scrollwheel on it. Thats why the iPod is the best mp3 player. The iPod was late to the game with everything. It wasn't the first hard drive based player. It wasn't the first to have a color screen. It wasn't the first to show photos or video. It wasn't the first to have games. The wheel made it so easy to use. I might pick it up when my verizon contract runs out this summer. It'll be nice having a phone that actually works with macs.

after further examination the "drag and throw" scrolling that it uses might actually be pretty sweet for navigating through the music.

think about what 5 hrs of TALK TIME means...normal cell phones have between 4-8 hours of talk time and normal ipods only have up to 12 hrs of battery life so that battery is actually pretty good...if you just kept it in your pocket and didn't talk on it (thus not using the TALK TIME) it would last a few days just like any other phone

muhuhahahaha, i have cingular and i am eligible for an upgrade. oh how i long for june... however, i may have to start selling some of my other shit in order to afford this badboy. and i'll never get rid of my ipod, i currently have 22.49GB of music on the damn thing, and 8GB on the iPhone won't cut it.

8 gigs of music is approxmately 5 days. Unless you're going to be away from your computer for longer than that (and you're listening to music the entire time) you could safely get rid of your iPod.

hmmm lets look at this, buy a zune, same sized screen wi-fi sending songs, better battery, and 30 gigs,=250 and a any cell phone, they all have internet,=free to 50 bucks. Iphone is a shitty deal.

watch the keynote presentation of the apple expo, I just did. It really demostrates what the iPhone is capable of. I was definetly amazed, it blew me away. It was all very well done. The internet browsing, scrolling, it runs on osx. It is actually a smart phone. I will look into purchasing one when they become available in Canada. And the fact that you can sync with mac is one major plus. But yeah watch the iphone keynote presentation to get a closer look at it.

it will probably do well in the consumer based industry as responses in this thread prove, but from a business/corporate point of view i still think blackberry and treo is a better choice.

and everyone acts like they have never dropped their phone before. imagine dropping this 600 dollar phone.

does it even have a power button? and i doubt you can take out the battery. and its fucking huge. like walking around with a remote control in your pocket.

it has no 3g, no gps, no ms exchange network.

im sure its fine for the materialistic consumer with the desire to look cool with new technology infront of their friends, but there are a lot of other phones far cheaper with the same options without the touch screen capabilities, but who cares about touch screen. buttons are buttons.
