is it worth it to purchase the $240 applecare plan for a new powerbook?...that's a load of money and i just wanted some other takes on it. have any of you actually taken advantage of the warranty and had to send in your computer for repairs or used apple's phone support? this will be my first mac so i just wanted to hear what current users have been doing...have the plan or not?...have any problems with macs period?

 
^ I have it for my 15 inch... It's probably just a good idea because if anything happens to a laptop, it's nearly impossible to repair it yourself.

Obviously most people don't have any problems. If you do, though, it can cost you a lot more than 240. It's like 600+ for a new display.

thanks for the input...yeh i decided that it's prolly better to have the plan than not to...while it is a grip of money to pay for the careplan, it seems like a solid 3 year deal and like you^ already pointed out, the cost of repairs is expensive from what i hear and the applecare seems to cover everything. i ordered my powerbook last night (i think it'll be the nicest machine i've ever owned with what's in it), i'm stoked...now i'm just waiting for my big apple package to get here...i hope i'm not disappointed with any of it.

 
good choice to go with the plan. I had a battery just go out on me, went into the store and they just gave me a new battery to replace the busted on. No questions asked. My brothers case got warped a bit on his and they replaced the case for him, even mailed him the box to mail his powerbook to apple in with shipping. It's definatly worth the little extra cash. They you can get the little things fixed when they come up.

ya i think its worth it, if your really low on cash i dont know but in the long run its worth it, another main reason is apples customer service is the fucking worst ever unless you pay for applecare. so i thinks its worth it and kudos for getting a mac!
