Apple goes Intel finally :-(

As apple stated a few months ago... it has just began to make the switch

http://www.apple.com/

The macbook is said to be four times as fast as its predecessor the power book and the imac gets bumped up to twice as fast...

Farewell to the powerpc chips from ibm... you were great while you lasted

i dont know why you are sad, this is great news for any apple fan. i would love to get a new mac, time to start saving.

Because apples processors have been seemless for the past few years... unlike intel's

intel has the reputation for breaking down over time... so the 3.2ghz computer a consumer may have purchased in january of last year... may only be opperating at 2.0 or less now. my 2.4 laptop runs at 1.1... jolly

unlike intel, ibm's processor remains intact with very little decay over time... so my dual 2.5 will remain a dual 2.5...

most mac lovers are in hope that the intel chip doesn't blow, but with their history chances are it will

Dude, those look sick, intel is good shit man, i like my PC, only diffence i see with mac and pc is macs usualy run smoother, and its still a mac, but with more power, i could care less about power actually....

What are you basing your proccessor flop measurment from? If you are using any sort of benchmarking tool with your OS installed for a while and possibly any adware/spyware or anything robbing it of proccessor speed then those would be absolute reasons as to why your proccessor speed is "slower".

Secondly, seemless in what way...both pc and mac go about proccessing in two different ways...and both do so with two very different os's...one is better then the other at one thing and vice versa.

P.S. This will only bring your mac prices down. Your beloved OS will stay in tact and likely become more advanced. And lastly...buy some mac stock. Watch that bad boy soar.

hertz of a processor is going to become irrelevant. in time, processors will be measured in

MIP per milliwat. you can only keep going so much faster. instead, its going to go in a direction of more efficiency per amount of energy. more processor cores on one chip.

and in that, the new intel yonah core processors (the new centrino laptop processors) are going to be better than any other processors made before.

seriously, did you just make that up!? are you saying intel processor clock speeds deteriorate, and ibm or amd don't? they're all strained silicon chips, what sets intel apart, huh? and for that matter, i have NEVER heard of clockspeed deterioration. lets see where you got your info.

No he's full of shit, he prob. messed around with his clockk multiplier. Damn people are stupid. A processor that deteriorates. Funny

So would it be a good idea to get a new lappy from apple right now or should I wait for the new powermac to come out and get that? I'm not really sure i want to spend 2k on a laptop.

personally, i'm waiting until the middle of the year or later if i'm gonna pick up an intel mac, only because by then most software companies will have intel versions of their programs finished.

Ugh, the G4 was so tired and old. I'm glad to see the dual core intel chips making their way into the Apple lappys. I can't wait to get one.

if your wondering if osx will be written in x86, then yes, for many years to come it will be written for both x86 and PPC chips. if your wanting to put osx on your dell, good luck with that. in time you'll be able to find a way to put it on your PC but it'll be a hacked version, with no support, and probably some problems.

here's the new apple+ intel ad.

you can already get it to boot, but there are major drivers issues like expected.

I am looking forward to getting my macbook and slapping XP on it...the perfect laptop.

seriously, macs gonna be ridiculous... running full versions of windows on a mac is gonna be like OOH AHH just a little bit n shit

nope...windows has a huge driver database since its nonstandard hardware. OSX doesnt have nearly the driver base so it'll be tougher.

it wont be that easy, mac is going to make sure its going to be hard, real hard. And even if it does work it probably wont be stable and have full compatiblity within the programs. Plus even partioning a hard drive for mac and pc is hard enough.

actaully, apple and micro$oft announced today a five year to deal to make it easier for consumers.

you'll never see a mac pre-loaded with Win, but its good for both companies to make it possible.

the file system for mac (HFS+) is completely different from FAT32 or NTFS, so right there i can see you running into issues trying to load XP ontp an intel mac, unless you figure out a way to format the other partition to be either FAT32/NTFS.

Even with FAT32 you run into problems such as booting issues. Recently in computer class we formatted a drive as FAT32 in hopes of it being compatible with both mac and windows as well as being bootable for a mac. Currently mac doesnt recognize a FAT32 as a drive, so putting the mac operating system on that is out of the question. And a NTFS drive on a mac cant even be modified because of its gay permissions.
