so i was getting out of my car and my ipod touch fell out of my pocket hit the ground and before i even noticed it fell i stepped on it and the screen cracked, now i have to pay 150 to repair it apple is a bunch of greedy assholes!!!
 
yeah but it shouldn't cost 150 to fix it probably costs them 10 to fix it

i get that its my fault it broke but 150?! wtf
 
Learn to fix it yourself. Buy parts on ebay and DIY for a fraction of the price. Its not hard shit either.
 
Apple is probably the greatest company in the world. So you dropped your ipod on the ground and stepped on it and it broke - cry me a river. What other company in the world updates your product (iPhone, iPod touch) periodically for free? None I truly love my iPhone, and it only gets better with new updates. In June there will be an update that will allow third party apps and downloads available to your phone or ipod touch, for free. So who cares that you broke your product and have to pay for the repair.

The screen on an iPhone costs about 30 bucks (estimate from iSuppli). Then theres shipping. 10 bucks both ways maybe so like 20 bucks. Then probably an hour of labor so theres another 20 bucks. So yeah they charge quite a premium but its not different than any other repair. An oil change costs what, 10 dollars to do on your own? If you have someone do it at a shop its 20-30 dollars. How much does best buy charge to remove spyware from computers? 60 dollars? How much does it cost to do on your own? Free.

I know you're pissed that you stepped on your iPod but it isn't Apple's fault.

 
Agreed. Apple is a very reliable company, who sometimes makes some shitty components but a cracked screen is not their own fault. If you are that upset at your own actions then i suggest you go invest in another company.
 
sorry to be rude but Microsoft did it before(i think) apple did with the Zune. Any many companies release free firmwares

Well with Microsoft, I got an Xbox 360, it broke in about 8 months with the three red rings of death. they warrantied it, and gave me a new on for free. 2 months later, that one breaks as well, right before I'm going to sell it. They won't warranty it because I already got one on warranty, so I have to pay 100 bucks. Also, there was a 3 month layover at Microsoft when I sent my first one to them, and they said 3-6 weeks total. in any event, Microsoft has lost all of my respect (not that it had that much to begin with....)
 
that's bullshit you have to pay for the second warranty, they should offer you a full refund if you don't want to pay. But every companys warranty sucks, applecare sucks, vehicle warrantys are a rip off. 

OP, seriously, you steped on your ipod, just be happy they can even repair it. Iphones arn't that great either, edge is spotty as fuck, the maps function only works half the time, you can't fit a regualr headphone jack into it, you can't play videos back to back, the AVout cable is $50, the screen only flips for typing in safari, there's no flash in safari, you can't download images/video/music/anything to it wirelessly. But this thread isn't about why my iphone is only half as cool as it could be.

If you second 360 you got was within three months of it being shipped from the facility, your actually still under warranty. You can pay like 100$ anytime within those 3 months to put that 360 on a no questions asked warranty for three years.
 
Damn should have gone with that...I already shipped it and payed $100. But as soon as I get the new one, I'm planning on selling it, and it comes with a 1-year warranty. Pretty much I just had to take off $100 bucks of the profit I'm going to make by selling it. It's still pretty weak though.
 
i could see that your pissed, you stepped on it, yeah its gonna cost a ton to fix it if you dont do it your self, but if it was a zune how fucked would you be? apples warrentys kick microsofts ass any day.

i broke i pods like nuts, dropping them then the hard drive going kaput, no questions asked no money took it, and gave me a new one. and i its also bad that an apple can run vista better than its own company's computers.
 
by reading this it seems you are implying that companies try to make profit, can anyone confirm that this is true, i thought they just gave shit away for free

heres why apple sucks. my ipod video broke 1 month after the warranty expired. it can operate fine, but there is no sound. how did it break, you might ask? beats me, it worked one night, and when i tried it the next day it was acting up.

150 to repair their mistake in designing a shitty product? no way
 
i just switched to an apple after having a PC laptop for the past 4 years. Apple fucking PWNS PCs without any doubt. for those of you who haven't switched i'd highly recommend it
 
acyually its 60, and it still doesnt cover it, it covers factory defects, only for 2 years though not 3
 
my ipod touch fell from two fucking feet and the glass on the screen cracked. i can still see the screen and touch it its not like a normal screen break cus the actual screen didnt break just the protective casing. But went to the apple store and it will cost me 350 to replace it, thats bullshit its a peice of glass it should cost like 10 dolars but they said oh no we dont replace hte glass we only do full screen replacement

moral- buy a zune
 
keeping your ipod touch in your pocket isn't the best idea...let alone any ipod, especially if you don't have it in a protection case. still sucks though
 
your definitely missing the point that you were the one that dropped it and you were the one that stepped on it.

As for the charge on the repair they probably have UPS do it.

Pay UPS $10 to ship it to where ever it will be fixed

Parts: at least $30 for the screen like previously mentioned, then they probly added $20 to cover any parts that might also be broken.

Pay UPS to fix it, my guess is it will take around 2 hours and at $20 an hour your looking at another $40

Then Another $10 to have UPS ship it back.

So estimate at: $110 cost. Companies do try and discourage people getting their stuff fixed by them since it decreases sales and is a general nussence (why they probably use a third party like UPS) so thats why they will charge you more then it costs them and they are a company, it is a service they offer and they need to make a profit.
 
unless I am mistaken, apple has been selling ipods for much longer than microsoft has been selling zunes, and apple has been giving free updates on itunes for your ipod. Therefore, Apple has been giving free updates much longer than microsoft has for their zunes.
 
apple is so sick, they always leave other companies playing catch-up. of course apple is gonna charge you big for a new screen, its like taking a shirt back and being like "uhhh, i stained this, can i have another?"
