I've been working on an app for the past year that crowd sources park reports, shows what features are set up, and lets you post photos to features. The goal is to know the conditions of the park specifically and not just get a mid-mountain base depth from the Mountain's website. Hopefully it will help with knowing things like when the park has been reset, if you should head out to the hill after work/class or wait until tomorrow, and if the bigger mountain that's three hours away is worth the trip.

After nearly a full year of work, it's finally in a "done" state and I'm really excited to get it out to real users! All the feedback ya'll have given me on NS so far has been really helpful so I'm hoping that some of you will want to be beta testers to help find any flaws and to load data into the app before the general release (which I think will be in January).

Check out the new website to get on the beta testing list or to learn more about the app: ullr.ski

Also, comment your home mountain below.

It's for both iOS and android

Sweet. I remember th other thread/threads on the topic. I'll check it out. Not sure I can do anything as far as our park where I'm at now but I'll ask.

Not sure if my mountain is the most popular on the east but maybe this is the year we make a positive comeback in the park. I would def use this app.

Been going to Appalachian mountain (hill) my whole life, sign me up

Sweet! I moved away from NC about a year and a half ago, but App is still my home mountain in my mind. I’d be stoked to have someone doing it at atp.

It’s fine if it’s not the most popular mountain ever, I’m hoping to eventually cover all mountains. I’ve seen some sick edits come out of mountain creek! Thanks for helping out

Defintly interested, ski blue mountain and mt st louis in ontario

At the moment, I only have US resorts loaded into the database. I definitely will get all the Canadian mountains loaded in, it’ll just take maybe a couple weeks before I’m able to do it. I can PM you when it’s all ready

Same for Norway, unfortunately. I just started with a small scope of work for development. But I really appreciate your interest and would love to have some testers in Europe. I can PM you too when it gets there

Super excited to see this come to fruition!!! Great idea, great UX, obviously a passionate developer... this is going to be sweet! I signed up to be a beta tester on the website but I ski the southeast so my home mountains are primarily Beech and App Ski Mtn.

I just wanna bump this up because it’s a really cool app but I think I’m the only one in all of Colorado who uses it so the rest of you guys need to download it. It’s a super good app that needs beta testers. Plus if you get it now, you can get any username you want

Cool idea! I'll download it! I'll try to update for Squaw when I roll through the park occasionally. I've always wondered why this kind of thing was never around.

If it popped off enough I could see mountains even having park crew updating and taking photos for the park which would be cool.

I filled it out but how do I become a tester?

They actually do have a feature that allows park crew members to be verified through some extra steps so that'll be great for all the users.

Just wait for an email from them. If you're on iOS, install TestFlight and enter the code/ click the link when your email comes. If you're on Android there's a similar process but I don't think you have to download a beta testing app (I'm not really sure about Android I have an iPhone now. If your on Android your best bet is to just follow the instructions in the email)

Just about all of them. Even the tiny resorts I've seen on the map in the home page for Colorado. I can't say for any other states but I would imagine all of them are included and the developer would be able to easily add any that are missing if you send beta feedback

Thanks for the support! Hopefully more people in CO will pick it up.

That's my goal. The hard part for me now is getting in contact with park directors/marketing directors at different mountains. It's harder to reach them as a group than it is to reach end users.

Check your email. I got behind for a couple days on sending out emails, but as of this morning, everyone who has signed up should have gotten an email.

Eventually all resorts. Right now I have all resorts in the US (if yours isn't there, let me know). I plan to add Canada and europe next

I forgot to mention it to my boss. We're VR so probably not but def have a lot of people that follow the parks, and we don't have a park page anymore. The resort only posts about wine pairings and stupidly expensive hotel packages. And the park section on the website has US today rankings ahead of the transworld poll and some jerrys quote about their daughter sidejumping the park.

I'll mention it though. You never know.

It’d be awesome if you mentioned it. But even if the resort isn’t on board with it at first, I’m trying to build the whole thing in a way that doesn’t necessarily need resorts behind it. Hopefully the park crew and skiers there could use Ullr to make something more useful than a park page focused on wine pairings.

True. There are def some motivated people on park crew that would update just for the hell of it to let people know what's going on at their mountains. I'll mention it though. And ask if he minds if I do it independent. If he doesn't give a fuck or have some strong reason against it I'll probably do that. Easy for me to take pictures of all the features too.

Just submitted for the beta. I usually ski at breck, key, and copper. Copper will be tough since they tend to change features almost every day

So last week I accidentally pushed a bad update to android to broke logging in and made pop up views unusable. I pushed another update last night that fixes everything. If you’re testing on android, make sure you upgrade to version 1.0.4

Just released an update for android that finds the location of features you add automatically. The same update will be out for iOS in a couple days, but hopefully Apple will approve it sooner.

Hopefully this will make it a lot easier to load data into Ullr

How often does the report update because when a park puts a new feature in does the park have to send u pics

No, they don't send me new pics. It's a crowd sourced app, so either the park updates the report themselves, or any user who notices the change can update the report

UPDATE: I'm going to release the app in the US and Canada on March 1st!

If you're a beta tester, please do everything you can to get features and reports up-to-date before the release. I believe that will be the most important factor in attracting and retaining users.

If you're not a beta tester, keep an eye out on ns for a news post or launch announcement and download it on the 1st!

when are the canadian resorts gonna be up?

They should be up right now, I loaded them into the database on Friday.

Let me know if I missed any, I feel like the list of Canadian mountains I found was shorter than I expected

It’s live in the US and Canada for Android and iOS!

Search Ullr in the App Store it got to Ullr.ski for direct download links

You missed Boler mountain in London Ontario. It's tiny but has a decent park scene

There's also a ton of private clubs in the collingwood/blue mountain area (Georgian peaks, cragleith, alpine, beaver Vally, devils glen, mansfield) but I'm not sure if you left those out on purpose

Other than that it's a great app. I can't wait to start using it

Thanks for letting me know. I’ll get Boler added. And I don’t know about private clubs. There have never been any around me so I don’t really know what the deal with private clubs are. Like can anyone go to them? Do a lot of people go? Do they have parks?

I think private clubs are kind of a weird Ontario thing. You either have to pay to be a member or have to be a guest of a member. They pretty much all have at least a small park and a few have pretty good ones.

Is this app still active? Tried to go in today since my home mountain is open. The app kept closing...I updated it, still wasn’t working. Then I deleted the app and reinstalled still same thing. It immediately opens to “recent activity” then closes.

It's still active! There was an issue this weekend that caused the app to crash, and I was on vacation and away from the internet for a few days so I wasn't aware of it or able to address it until now (perfect timing lol). But I just fixed it and everything should be back to normal.
