Aperture...(computer program)

Yah...what's it good for?

I just switched to digital from film and I'm trying to establish a system for storing/organizing/editing my photos and for uploading to my website (which I haven't really started yet). So any suggestions/programs for doing so would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

System requirements for aperture are pretty high, yeah, need at least a 1.8 Ghz G5 or higher 1 GB ram, and a good video card. It runs OK on the bottom end machine, usable and only really slows down when you're doing some intense sorting or stuff like that.

I also think it said that it required the intel processor, true or am I getting mixed up?

no, aperture is universal - works on both powerpc and intel.

i personally like it. it's pretty much a souped up iphoto when you get right down to it, but there's a lot of really useful features for RAW adjustments (and JPEG too, but i don't see why you'd use it for that). i know a few professionals that actually prefer using bridge over aperture, but i think that's really because they already have a workflow established with bridge and they've found that their system works better for them. to each his own.

You need a pretty mental system to run it. I've got it on my MacBook Pro and I'm sporting 2 gigs of ram, trust me, you want to have at least 1.5 gb if you're gonna run through a serious amount of photos. I use it as a workflow management tool, I still do all my editing in Photoshop but I find Aperture to be a dope way to organize all my stuff.

1.0 is crap, however the 1.1.1 update is 100x better... Not to mention it is a universal binary and hauls ass.
