Anything in Michigan Worth traveling to yet?

Hey local NS, I'm a guy who is super busy with full time school and work! I live right outside of Toledo, OH on the border of Ohio/Michigan. I really haven't been able to keep up with who's open yet but I really don't want to waste my time traveling to a place with no descent park setup and tons of snirt (snow+dirt=snirt) . I know it's early in the season here but can you guys post up here on who's got a nice setup (provide pics for +K).

P'm on carpools too. I'm always down to save on gas.

Also, expect places up north to open first. Alot of resorts were open last week, but everyone closed down after a couple days of down pour rain and high temps. The best early season park will be nubs, boyne, and maybe c burg (they usualy open last, but they will open with tons of features)

C burg is planning a rail jam for snowboarders only on the 15th, And they are trying to have the resort open then, weather permitting. And when it does open, it will be sick.

I heard the stuff up north it open or opening the 15th. Early season Michigan sucks though so I dont consider things open until 90% of runs are open

Yea nubs and boyne are open now, but there are defiantly some places struggling to even make snow (crystal and shanty). Down here in SE michigan, no one is open. Way to warm and to many days or rain killed the existing base that the hills had. Im not trying to be that guy, but its looking a whole lot like last year, and the forecast isnt very promising for us either down here.

Where do you live? I live in NW ohio and I know I have talked to the OP before and he lives near me. I am always looking for people ski with in this baron desert that used to get snow. May be making trips to NY in Jan-March that you could hop along for if youre close

Thatd be ill. I live in Birmingham. Its about 30-45 minutes from detroit. 25 min to PK, 40 minutes to Holly, and 40 minutes to brighton, so the slopes are somewhat conveinent to me. Where are you at in NW ohio? Im pretty familiar with cities because my father grew up there.

Im in Toledo and will be hitting up all of the above this season at least once. Though my knees wont let me hit the park as much as I used to. I will let you know when I am road tripping out to NY to see if you want to jump in. Its only like 6 hours from here to Bristol and Holiday Valley I believe. It only took me 6 to get to Rochester in the summer

Word. Gotcha. Sounds good. My schedule can be a little hectic, but i might be able to make it out east with you. Let me know when your in MI, we might be able to take a few laps togetherz

Sounds good man. I will also be hitting 7springs some. I have a fairly hectic schedule with finishing degrees (yes plural) and working as an engineer (they expect me to actually do things and travel for them). But I will make time for a few trips and am going to Denver early March (sorry not invited, going with the lady friend).

Went to Mad River yesterday and they had some nice rail setups but nothing for a jump line yet. Thinking about hitting Holly or Alpine Valley next weekend

dont come to alpine although there where some really fun piles of blown snow to gap, the park was a box and a flat bar.

next week hopefully, They built some rollers for jumps today, im hoping for a triple jump line tomorrow.

Holly had some rollers like they were gonna build jumps. Maybe 6-7 features and a shit jump there as if right now. Pineknob has like 4 jumps, 2 are OK. Then maybe 7 other features. Hollys shit was setup better jib wise. Jump looked like shit though

Why?

And alpine is about to be sick as hell in the next couple days, all of their guns where in the park, looks like they are putting up some pretty big features. Should be really good around saturday/sunday.

Well, basically they said the park was gonna be open, so i got there at 845, (opens at 9) to get some laps in before everything got destroyed and the crowds came. So I bought my "holiday?!?1" lift ticket for $41 AM pass. Got out there, all gunz were a blazin, and parks not open, so I gave them 35min to open them. Then proceeded to go to the ticket office to find out what the deal was. I was very nice, at first**** She then told me everything wouldnt be open until 11am, so I kindly asked for a refund. She says, "take a look at your ticket, it says no refunds." So I got a little ANGRY. I then told her that they had lied to me about what was going to be open because when I checked online, and called the day before they said all parks would be open. She go real sassy with me and gave me a voucher/raincheck to use at a later date. Which happens to be fucking bullshit - today was the last day at holiday rates, until MLK day, which I paid. So unless I happen to use that voucher on MLK weekend, I will be loosing money, not to mention the gas I spent getting out there.

^ sounds sick. I might have to make it up there this weekend. PK has been adding a feature or 2 every night lately. I think their at around 20 total. Timberline is packed. They need some more stuff in pinery and snowbird

The resorts in northern MI will be fine. They arent suffering as bad as us in SE michigan. Places around here are closed today with intentions of opening tomorrow. Cold weather returns next week.

Ill let you guys know the state of alpines park when i get called in too work, probably going to have to reset the whole thing.

Im heading out to New York or Seven Springs either this weekend or next. If anyone wants to throw down on some gas is welcome to come. Ill cover the hotel but I get the bed or choice of the best bed.I can make plans based on any interest. Im in NW Ohio and am willing to pick anyone up on the way or you can meet me at my house.

on a waiting list for a hotel in aspen next weekend.. probably not going to happen, so headn to 7 springs.

Thats what it sounds like for the majority of the east. Snowshoe is lacking snow to.

For real though, everything in northern MI is looking pretty good. If you have never been, stay in a cheap holiday express in the petoskey area. 20 min to boyne mtn, 20 min to boyne highlands, and 20 min to nubs. petoskey is kinda in the center of all of them. Boyne and nubs have a dope ass park right now.

If you can, check out Cburg as well.

Yeah I'm rethinking my plans. I may go up north instead of east. My cousin said they are struggling in mass and Vermont too.

On a positive note, I just got a rack system for my car so now I can fit (comfortably) 2 bikes and 6 pairs of skis with 4 people.

Word. Ill be at Crystal this weekend, and for a few days in Feb. Let me know if you if you make it up there and when.
