This is to anyone who is currently working or is in the inner circles of Keystone. How likely is it to open on Friday the 13th? If not when is their estimated date. The nightly lows are getting below 30F consistently all week leading up to the 13th so it was be totally possible. I really want to know, the pre season is killing me!

Bruh I would NOT go to keystone on FRIDAY THE 13th, in keystone urban legend your season is gonna be cursed if they open that date and you go there!!!!

Seeing as it won't even be below freezing for the entire next week (except one night), I'd say highly doubtful.

forecast I saw was for the town of keystone, but 29 degree is likely not cold enough to produce meaningful snow. The measurement for snowmaking isn't purely the temp, but a combination of temperature and humidity called "wet bulb" and even if the wet bulb is 29 degrees its pretty shit for making snow. You need low 20s (or lower of course) to really make good enough snow.

Do you use the pay for app? You like it?

At the end of the week it’s looks like it will get cold, they stated that they have the capacity to make enough snow for schoolmarm in two night?

No I don’t pay. It’s the free version. I’m more inclined to look at Seth’s weather reports on fb for my forecasts

I’ve been using the free version. The full trial ended and they won’t stop bothering me to sign up.

I use the pay app and like it a lot. I'm not even sure how it differs from the free version, but I will gladly pay those people $20 a year to keep it going.

Also, I don't think there is any way Keystone will open by the 13th. There are no good nights for snowmaking until the 11th and they haven't even fired up their guns yet as far as I can tell. That storm would have to stall (which is a possibility) and really dump to change my mind. I think the weekend of the 21st is more likely and maybe even the weekend after depending on how the forecast lines up.

I feel like they might make it happen. Epic has been on the decline for a while now because Ikon is trendy and hip with the youngsters. They have been spending a lot of money of on upgrades and it wouldn’t be surprising to see them push for a early start even if it’s hard/expensive.

theres a huge difference between "expensive" and "impossible" its not gonna be cold enough man, its still october my man, most colorado early season openings in october are fueled by natural snowfall.

go in with a few homies its mad cheap. i like paying for it because i can look up accurate mountain forecasts for anywhere in the country, instead of not knowing where to look for accurate info if im travelling. and also because it provides localized forecasts for random mountains, very useful for backcountry skiing.

and i don't think key will open for friday. even the basin will be hard pressed to get it done. but i really hope this storm delivers and one of them makes it happen

Looks like the Wet bulb will be 26F for this week. As well as the 3-6 inches that are starting to fall today I think they could get open.

26 wet bulb as the low? So that means it’s maybe 26 for a few hours. A few hours of the most borderline snowmaking temp. You will coat the grass at most
