Anyone who owns a WRX

the m5 is sweet, but the e30 m3 is better though. actually way better, i dont think ive ever had that much fun driving a car. its so perfect, everything is so well balanced, plus what i like about it most is that its not that fast in a straight line, so you have to corner to be fast and have fun, you have to shift at the right times and be smooth enough in corners to acclerate out with decent speed. you actually have to drive it somewhat well. but seriously the stock e30 m3 i drove easily handled better than both 911's and the m5.

for everyone hating on how dumb a wrx/ or any other subaru is for a first car should also consider the plus's
Reliable-both of mine have had +150k miles
Safe
Fun
AWD
not ultra fast
great winter car
great aftermarket
electrical systems dont blow like vw's and audis
hold their value.

You are 16, getting a car with 300+ HP is about the equivilent of smoking crack. If you want 300 HP, get a truck. Any car you get will be "fast" at 16. Why? Because you WILL have a lead foot and speed whenever you can. What the hell are you gonna do with a WRX? Race your friends that have shitty little Rice Bangers that my truck could beat? You also want a piece of shit as a first car. Why? Because you WILL dent/scratch, and or crash it. Get a piece of shit that will get you from A to B and save up your money. My first car was and still is a truck. Insurance is way lower, and you can abuse the shit out of it without it dying. Get a shit car or truck, your wallet and life will thank you for it.

at least know hat your talking about before you start to say some kid cant drive/wont take care of his car.
wrxs have 212 i think(still a good amount) not 300(thats an sti). adn not every body crashes/abuses their cars, regardless if its their frist car or not.

225 HP with the 2.5 liter.

And I agree with you, not everyone is a fucking idiot behind the wheel. However, it always seems that 90%+ of the population on the road are fucking idiots.

1. your an idiot. learn your shit before your speak.

2. my friends (what you call ricers) with swaps will smash your gay fuckin truck.

3. get your shit strait.

It has nothing to do with being an idiot. Its lack of experience. Shit will happen unless you drive like a grandma, its just a matter of when, not if.

shit happens, but who said its his fault? im sure in that much of a car hes gonna be speedin, but in my car which is decently quick i dont boost half the time or unless im not shifting untill after 3k rpms when its spooling. and i dont go much more that 5 above. fast cars dont make you a dumb driver.

Being an idiot has everything to do with this. If you are an idiot and drive in the left lane while going 5 miles per hour under the speed limit you are endangering yourself as well as everyone else on the road. If you are an idiot and drive without signaling turns you are... If you are an idiot and pull u-turns while crossing the double yellow line... Being an idiot behind the wheel will put you in more dangerous situations than the average driver. Knowing how little deviation it takes from your lane to cause a serious crash is something you should keep in your head while driving.

Lack of experience does play a role here, but those that totally disregard everyone else on the road and drive while not adhering to any traffic laws are at more of a danger.

I have been involved in two crashes in my 10 years of driving. Both of which were unavoidable and totally not my fault. I drive the speed limit 90% of the time. I have a WRX and it's fun to drive, that does not mean I drive like an asshole and break every traffic law. Like stated above, I also shift around 3K rpm and typically stay out of boost unless I am getting on the on-ramp (hard not to enjoy that turbo.)

Cliff notes: Keep your head out of your ass while driving and you will be more attentive and have a lower risk of fucking yourself and/or others up.

I got my STi when i was 19 with my own money that i saved and worked for since i was 16 and my insurance still rapes me till i bleed. Now its payed off and built and sexy and worth every penny.

dont be a trend whore, buying a wrx is like buying the oakley bright colored jackets. you are 16, you will wreck that car, it is too much car for a young driver. be a man,get a truck!!!!

really it doesnt take much to drive a wrx, its one of the most easy to drive sports cars you could buy.

which might by why kids fuck themselves up so much with them, they do a couple fast turns in their wrx which takes no car control skill because of its low hp and awd. and they think their subaru can handle anything! so they suddenly think they are a rally driver and own a rally car (wrx is nothing close to a rally car) and fly into corners at light speed or go 100 down a city street and kill themselves.

they are very easy to drive until you push them to there limits. when you push them to there limits there are certain things you can and cannot do. different ways to cope with weather conditions, road conditions, turns, understeer, and other shit.

first mistake made by 16 year olds and well most people that think they know how to race is they think that the break is going to save them when going to fast into a corner or when they are sliding out of control. the breaks are usually not your friend unless you are going in a straight line.

exactly, with a rwd sports car which would be alot harder to control, you have to deal with alot of car control issues just driving around quickly, not pushing it to the limit, so when you reach the limit, what happens is expected and you know how to handle it. with a wrx, you can drive fast as hell damn close to the limit, and think you know exactly how the car handles, then your confidence builds, you keep going faster and faster, then when you actually get to the cars limits, and most likely go past it, you dont know what the fuck your doing and crash.

1. Get your shit straight cuz you wont be able to handle a 300+hp car at the age of 16

2. i would love to see your friends race against my car and my truck

3. get a beater that you can affored to fix after you hit some one or ditch it and not some 25.000 doollar car that cost alot to fix

oh and by the way i pay

200 a month for a 2008 dodge caiber srt4

150 a month for a 2000 dodge 2500 5.9l cummins

no tickets or accidents

oh yea and i have been driving since the age of 10. started out racing carts moved up to shifter carts at the age of 15 and then started drag racing at the age of 18 till now.

I think your logic is a bit backwards, and a little flawed. Once you "hit the limit" on a wrx nothing insane or unpredictable happens, especially on snow or gravel, you lose grip and slide off into the guard rails or trees, something that would have happened 15 mph slower in a rwd or fwd car in it's price range. And btw, 09 wrx's come from the factory with 265hp; but I doubt you'll be buying a new one, and if you are make your parents spring for something better.

The WRX is certainly one of the easiest car to drive... man its a fucking AWD, you have no fun driving these exept in harsh conditions, even FWD are harder to drive like in snow... I drove my friend's Audi TT (yeah i know he's 17 and fucking rich....) and I was just beggining to drive my Civic alone, and I had less problems to drime it than him (it was manual and i was used to drive stick, not him). So anyway, AWD cars are easy to drive and forgive a lot more than other cars because of all the electronic systems.

Now, if he would have wanted a RWD car, then he would have certainly had a problem with it. I borrowed once my father's 300C and I went to ''beat'' it and found it was pretty difficult.

So, sparknot, fuck WRX's, buy a Civic, you won't be dissapointed and be rapped by your insurances...

Oh and btw, theres a lot of cars that have stock more than 300hp, and grandmas can drive them

im talking about higher speeds, like kids start out slow ripping through city streets and stuff going around 30-40 through corners, then they suddenly think they are invinvible and try doing shit at 90mph and have no idea what to do, a car handles extremely different at really high speeds. it doesnt matter if you have awd, you try doing rapid steering imputs at 40 mph the wrx is perfectly fine and its almost impossible to loose control, you do the same at 90 or 100 and you will be screwed. ive seen this happen right in front of me, and in a subaru, some kid was flying down a main street over 100mph, tried to weave past a car, lost control, hit 2 trees and split the car in half, killed himself and 3 passengers, i was literally 100 yards away in the parking lot he crashed into.

i have first hand experience too, ive driven an awd car on a track, with corners from 20 mph to 120, at slower speeds you can throw the car into anything and it will be fine and get out of it. at 120 it has none of that extra stability you get at lower speeds.
with a rwd car, on all those corners the car atleast handles similarly, and you know what to expect.

im not saying awd is bad, im just saying its wierd getting used to it, and the fact that its awd almost makes it more dangerous for unexperienced drivers.

Unexperienced drivers and fucking idiots behind the wheel are two completely different aspects of this discussion now. The thread originated with insurance costs in mind. Now all of the negative attention brought onto the WRX/STi owners and their insurance companies has been from asshole drivers that do stupid shit. Not all of us drive that way, but unfortunately for us, we have to pay with other people's mistakes. Just because a 16 year old, male, gets a WRX does NOT mean he will be someone who shows disregard for the safety of himself and others behind the wheel. There is a huge difference between enjoying and pushing the limits of yourself and your car, and doing that safely/legally.

subaru leather is a joke.

who makes the stereo...not bose or b&o

wrx is built for speed, the 4 cylinder a4 is built for the combination of power and economy. the a4 gets alot better gas mileage than a wrx. poor comparison.

my a6 has 18 more horse than an STI, and alot more torque. and 5 inches more leg room for the passengers, and its a shit ton more aerodynamic, and hate to say it its a V6 BI TURBO and still gets better gas milage than a 4cyl wrx.

i guess the insurance difference for owning a luxury sedan vs. a sports car pays for your extra maintence. you just cant beat a 6 point independent suspension around a highspeed turn.

you buy a wrx for one reason TO BEAT ON IT.

You're comparing a modded audi to a stock STI? The STI comes stock with 50 more horsepower and well over a second quicker 0-60. And is about 15k cheaper new than the a6 twinturbo was.

If you are buying a subaru you obviously don't give a fuck about your passengers. How many times have you rode in the back of your car?

You are saying your maintenance costs are less? I can guarantee on average they are more. Those things, especially when chipped blow turbos easily, what's that, like 5k? But your parents are paying for it anyway, so it doesn't really matter. I would never own an Audi out of warranty.

I get 28 mpg in a wrx with 100k miles on the freeway, What do you get?

In my old A4 I saw between 28-32 mpg, with my WRX I see very similar mileage as well. Averaged nearly 30mpg on a 4200 mile road trip this summer.

what makes you think parents paid for my a6. i paid for it straight cash. TWICE. im on my second a6.

horse power isnt why you should buy a car. yea the a6 is chipped, i HARDLY ever drive it above the speed limit. i bought the a6 cuz its gangster as fuck and you dont have to drive it top speed to feel cool in it.

i love the back seat of my car its where you can get laid, comfortably, and its the most comfortable postition in the car. if you are looking for a nap or just to chill you go to the backseat and let someone else drive.

replacing both turbos is 2,000 dollars with labor. and they are brand new so im not worried.

i know my maintence is more on my audi, i said the difference between insurance to insure a luxury sedan vs. a sports car pays for my maintence. and my car is a 2000 and it still shines like brand new, aside from where some asshole smashed into me in the parking lot.

any car going in a straight line is going to get tons better gas mileage. my a6 gets 34.6 mpg when i drive from jackson to slc.

haha 28 mpg, you guys are either full of shit, you're fudging your numbers to convince yourself, or you drive like a bunch of bitches and wasted your money on a wrx. I've never gotten more than 23, more like 18 all around. There's always pussyfooters on nasioc bragging about their mpg, it's hilarious.

im only 15 and im a pretty good driver....ive driven many sti's and i know i could handle them but its way too much for a first car. you should step away from the wrx and get something way cheaper cuz garrenteed you will fuck up somehow trying to show off or something and you will end up spending shit tons of money. just wait till your at least 18. i want a wrx or an sti but i wont get one till im older so i know for a fact i can handle it. so i would just wait if i were you. its just not worth it.

ya i have owned a wrx and 2 sti's they get a terrible gas milage. my s4 gets amazing gas milage though. cruisin on the highway i get like 32mpg.

even 212 for such a small car is a lot. and i think the wrx has more anyway around 245 or 250 or something like that.

you own an s4?? is it a b5? i own a b5 s4 too. its a great car, but im selling it cause it just costs too much damn money. not reliable at all.

yup i have one and they are super reliable if you keep up on your maintenance but thats the expensive part.

even if i got a civic. it would be a 1992-00 hatch and i would be doing a B16a2 swap and going from there.

all of you that bitch about it being to much whp for me, grow up.

the civics with swaps can put out outragous amounts of hp with still weighing around 2300 pounds

so i guess you could bitch about that being to much whp to weight ratio but whatever i dont care what you think

Typical teenage thinking, I remember when i acted like that, and then i grew up after seeing several friends total their cars, 3 of which never walked away.

Better start planning your funeral now.

Good day.

ha your pathetic. Sweet you have a truck that has 300+ hp? I guarantee you don't even know what kind of engine a wrx is. I'm at 305 to the wheels (i know claim) and i will bet my life it can take yours and still use less gas. Next time you think about posting, do us all a favor and logout..

My first car was a wrx and i regret nothing about it. I was 18 when i got it tho. What i would recommend is if you do get a wrx, keep it mainly stock for a couple of years, then start modding if you want. I say this because you will wanna go fast n shit when you first start driving (everyones' that into cars that is) and when you start aftermarketing, theres more chance you'll fuck shit up. Other then that, great cars, awd is the shit and they look dank with a ski rack on em.

What I highly recommend you doing is go join www.nasioc.com and look at Private Car 'For Sale' Classifieds and also in Newbies & FAQs.

I'm not opposed to WRXs, they are great cars, I'm just opposed to kids who drive them that just got their license. One of my best friends crashed a modded Civic into a ditch, cartwheeled, wrapped it around a telephone pole, and died about 6 months ago.

Getting a WRX is fine with me, once you have experience. But I've seen too many of my friends fuck their "fast cars" up that mommy and daddy got them for their first car.

I also honestly dont care about that first statement, your comparing a performance car to a hauling truck.

depends on the year, but my 05 was over 300 when I got it when I was 18. I had a perfect driving record too. They arnt really that fast, but they are siktr and r0x0r the sn0wz0r.

You should probably get something else if you are 16 though. outbacks are tight.

having driven rear weel and frotn weel drive cars have front weel drive car now when peopel push a frnt weel drive car or allweel drive to the limit its very hard to control but doable u have to no what ur doin like u have to deal with understeer sooo much in it and especially if ur gunning it through turns rear weel drive is i think easier tho casue u can "drift" to control slides and watnot and if ur losin control i think its easier.

WRX's in my opinion are the best car you can buy for a first car. Especially if you can put the insurance in your parents name. Mine insurance on an 06 STI is about $130 a month, so its not bad at all. Also, don't listen to these kids who say not to get one as your first car because you'll just wreck it. You should be responsible enough at 16 to handle the car. They are pretty fast, but a WRX is definitely not too much power for anyone. Also, if you do wreck it, that's why you pay for insurance. It also is beneficial that after market parts are in most cases cheaper than stock replacement parts so insurance can then make some mods to your car as well.

nice truck.

and dont get a wrx, im not going to tell you you cant handle a WRX at 16, i dont give a shit. But WRX are tin cans, if you want to mod a car find an old a4 like 98-01 with a 1.8t and do work, you're going to get a nicer car that can go just as fast as your little tin can
