Anyone tried the alpha 1 as a pipe ski

i am just kinda interested in this... think it could be fun. although i dont know what the flex is like on the alpha 1's and am thinking they could be too soft.

dude they are not that soft

they ride real well, but the rockers are where your gonna get your flex

they should rip in the park

i feel like since they are made for buttering extremely well, you are gonna have to stomp the fuck out of everything you do becuase it will be super easy to wash out on the landing

dude, tanner could do his winning run in the half pipe last year on the jjs... that's why they made the alpha ones.., the shape is so dope for everything. they just wanted the ski to be less wide than the jj.

i talked to the armada reps about it.

they'll be sick pipe/ park skis

i believe standard ol' camber would be better for pipe since the tail is basically always under compression, which translates to better boost at the lip. no doubt rocker skis are great in their own respect, but it just seems pipe is better left to standard camber. i know the reps say its a good pipe ski, but i've never really met a rep that has ever said one of their skis isn't good for pipe. i would be interested to see an unbiased review of both the alpha 1 and the pipe cleaner in the pipe. i'm pretty sure pipe cleaner would win still. just my two cents...

I don't think it matters whether or not you can use them for pipe, I just don't see the advantage to them in pipe over a PC or T-hall.

it seems like a rockered ski in the pipe wouldnt generate as much power in the tranny as a ski like the pipe cleaner.

it's dual camber like the old prajekts a few years back, the early rise is limited to the tips and tails and the rest of the ski has normal camber.

Also, it isn't soft, relative to a T-hall or invader, dont expect it to butter better than those.

im gonna guess they would be good in pipe because all the swing weight is under foot so they spin really easy. pm word, i know he has a pair

man people are a little too touchy. i bet you at least 7/10 shop workers cant tell you the difference between dual camber and rockered. that wasnt even my point, basically i dont think that any early rising ski will be as effective in the pipe, be it flat underfoot or cambered, since there is less contact with the snow. this is just my guess and i would like to read a review on them so whoever has them put a review up in the review section please.... ROCKERED!

and to whoever may be offended by this statement. i was generalizing because most shops around here or anywhere close are straight dumb and will pull as much out of their ass as they can to get you to buy something...

Ive been out on my alpha 1s for a few days now. Heres what I can tell you. They are stiffer all around than the pipe cleaner in both the tip and tail... although more so in the tip. They have a lot of camber under foot and very very little rocker in the tip and tail. They are not that good for buttering. The shape in the tip and tail as well as the rocker helps mainly with keeping the skis from hooking when you carv off of lips and stuff like that. they skis hold and edge as good if not better than anything that I have skied in a long time and they are fast as hell. They pipe at my resort isnt open yet so I cant speak to that but I can tell you that as far as holding and edge, swing weight and speed are concerned... there is nothing keeping this from being a very good pipe ski. I understand the argument about the rocker not being conducive to pipe skiing... but i really dont think this is gong to hurt the ski that bad... the rocker is so small, and everything else about the ski is so good for pipe that I just cant see it being bad for pipe.

yeah i was looking at a pair in glacr shop in whis and was like "isnt there supposed to be early rised tails on these??" in the tail its really not THAT big, in the tip there is alittle more. there is definately not as much early rise on the tips and tail as there is on the JJs!

They actually works great in the pipe. i have a old pair of pipe cleaners but i prefer the alpha 1s in the pipe, mainly because of the short turn radius and the stiffness. they realy "pump" the pipe and you may not get the same power of the trany but they are faster and way easier to control in the air. a very god pipe ski in fact. to my surprise
