Anyone think inception is overrated?

I just watched it for the first time (i know shoot me). I enjoyed it, but in my opinion it is not a great film, not even close. It borrowed ideas from a long list of movies such as Paprika, the matrix, a waking life, 2001 space odyssey, ect. The plot got repetitive very quickly. The acting was great, but the characters them self were stale. I don't understand why there was so much hype around it this summer, it was not "AMAZING". I don't see myself showing my children in 20 years like i will show them Nolan's other films (Dark Knight or Memento).

I understand that many of you will not agree with my opinion but i hope someone feels the same way as i do about the movie.

I thought it was fucking sick, but there were definitely some weird things going on in the plot that were frustrating. I can't really think of any right now because I haven't seen the movie in months, but yeah...I really liked it overall.

i can see your point and yes, directly influenced from the matrix but i still loved it. The whole idea of it was just awesome.

inb4 shitstorm.

The movie was good for what it was, a summer blockbuster that would keep you distracted and somewhat engaged for 1-2 hours.

Dont think it was overrated my mind was blowned after the movie. rly liked it

And south park episode on it was too fucking funny.

Sorry, but for a summer blockbuster, it is about as smart and gripping as a big movie gets.

Beautiful movie. You aren't the only contrarian. TRUST ME. I had to hear some dumbass kid in line for Deathly Hallows (now talk about an overrated movie...) talk to his friend about how Inception wasn't that good because of a bunch of poorly hashed out points, much like yours. Oh great, I see you are trying to be a movie snob.

All successful movies will have people like you.

As for "borrowing" ideas... Simpsons Did It

The idea was good, but unoriginal, VERY. The plot parallels that of Paprika and some scenes are exactly the same in Paprika. Maybe i wasn't a fan of inception because it lacked that "WOW" factor for me.

and yeah page is pretty cute ^^

didn't read the post but I left the theater completely unimpressed and I went in without hearing any of the hype around it until after

definitely.
and it was good, but nothing completely sick. a cut above the average summer blockbuster, but the characters and action was whack compared to the dark night, and anyone who thought it had the "most engaging" plot ever has obviously never seen momento.

i lol'd bro "poorly hashed out points" i didn't see any counter points to my argument, so i will ignore that. Also i never tried to bash inception i just am not a fan. You have your opinion, i have my opinion. Is my opinion wrong?

i don't know. the 90's was a pretty good decade for movies. i think if inception came out then we'd all ask wtf are they talking about. now i think that we are so used to crap that we crave anything that can remotely be considered an intellectual creation.

i think it was too complicated for one movie but i dont think i could stand the suspense if they made it into 2 2hr movies. very good movie but i thought the plot was underdeveloped and the it made vast leaps making you try and piece it together which i normally enjoy but just felt it happend to often in this movie. 8 out of 10

Me, it was a good movie, but just like you said, it wasn't a Dark Knight or Momento, which are both top notch, nothing really like them before, films. Inception was just annoying because everyone said it was a giant mind fuck, i watched it once and completely understood the entire movie the entire way through, the ending was a giant tease, like the fucking top should have fallen so i didn't feel like i wasted 2 hrs of my life watching a fucking dream sequence. Also, Leo needs to stop making movies, and whoever said Ellen Page is hot, GTFO, she isn't.

That is my Inception rant.

I've heard this a thousand times. People think they're all smart asses because they understood a movie.. They then proceed to say this phrase to others like me who did not LOVE this movie, while I understood the whole damn thing.

im so sick of people fucking commenting in a thread where they "didn't read the post" why the hell are you taking the time to say something in a thread where you didn't even read the OP's comment. Its retarded and completely dismisses any dumbass opinion that you felt compelled to share with us.

hahahah agreed but i liked the movie once i really understood it, the actual filming was cool like that fight scene when the gravty shifts are happening thats pretty cool. Idk i enjoyed it quite a bit. Honestly one of my favorite "new" movies. I just think movies in general are going down hill fast. And i hate that kids think transformers and other simple predictable action movies are the sickest movies ever. To each their own.

From an audience's POV Incption was fun to watch and engaging etc, but yea i agree, its not one of those films that will go down in history. Still a good movie though

this film was very much overrated. sure there was some good acting but in general i dont think the movie was that mind blowing. at least it was better than avatar. damn i wish i could get those two and a half hours of my life back....

hahaha

but yeah i mean sure it wasnt the greatest movie ever and it's a bit over the top as summer blockbusters tend to be, but the acting was pretty good, effects were crazy, there was action, and it made you think. so i thought it was sick

i remember seeing it with my brother when it first came out and both agreeing it was really really bad. i was shocked when people were stoked on it. the acting and the dialogue just seemed really really bad to me. im no movie snob but that just really blew it along with a lot of stuff was just dropped in there without any sort of depth at all just kinda briefly touched upon or mentioned. in theory great film, a lot of minor stuff just really blew something that coulda been awesome.

To all you people saying you understand it but didnt think much of it, you stike me as not being very interesting people. Inception is as deep as it gets.

Honestly, my favorite thing about inception was the absolutely phenomenal, phenomenal, phenomenal soundtrack.

The film itself kept me engaged and interested, though it was reasonably predictable, save one or two moments. Unfortunately, that's about as good as a summer blockbuster will ever get, though.

.

although not sure if serious.

i thought it was great. i am in no way a movie freak but i liked it. i have no clue about the other movies (except matrix) and even that for long.

the trick is how you do it. matrix is (i dont like science fiction as a genre in general) just a random story in a world that has endless possibilities whereas inception kinda made it work so that it seems "possible" and not a sciencefiction movie.

dunno if that made sense, but whatever. like i dont like harry potter and charmed or such stuff since you write the story, make up the worst trap the hero could possibly be in and then you just invent a new magic thingy that solves everything and saves the day.
