he created the concept of social darwinism which was influential in the way the imperialistic nations of the 19th century treated their colonies and also how bigger powers viewed their enemies, which is one of the things that attributed to the escalation of ww1 along with many other things.
 
however the social darwinists took what darwin said out of context and decided the darwins suggestion of interspecies competition wasn't enough so they had to call it "the struggle for survival" which opened up the concept of eugenics, which as a result created the idea of the aryan super race and pushed along the systematic killing of the 'inferiors'
