I really want to. I could get one of those volkswagon vans and plaster it in stickers. My friends said they want to go too, I still have 3 or 4 years to think about it though.

me and a friend plan on doing it this year, except we've already gone to college for 2 years, and we're definitely ready for a break. We don't plan on one mtn. though, we're going to get a Geo Metro or some small car that gets real good gas milage and travel all over the west, WA, OR, ID, MT, WY, CA, NV, CO, UT, and maybe BC/Alberta. Hit up wherever the snow is flying.

I only have 1 friend that skis, but I'm sure I could convince my snowboarding friends to come. We could hit up like all the major resorts in Alb/Bc. I'm drooling just thinking about it.

yeah man, definitely do it. I am a senior in college now and I really wish I had either gone to a skiing area school or had taken a year off to have some fun. You are only young and without a job once :)

getting your wisdom teeth out sucks

guy, just think of all the handrail that will be on campus for you to slay.

I opted to go to school but have put as much money aside for ski trips as i do for booze. If your looking to be the next big pro then stick with skiing, otherwise you can still enjoy yourself on the hill and at school.

I did it and I'm REALLY glad I did. I took a few years off after high school. I worked full time for a while, then after getting sick of it I packed up all my gear and drove to Whistler.

If you go into it with an open mind, don't mind working hard when you need to, and want to meet a lot of like-minded people, I'd definitely go for it.

School will always be there.

you can't spell sick without ck

i know alot of peeps who have done that, my friend wants to also. but with this mammoth college opening there isnt goin to be any need

Yeah, I did. But I'm in the UK, where more people seem to take a year off between school and university (college).

I worked in the French Alps in a hotel as a dish pig and a nightporter. The job sucked, but it meant I got to ski most days. I loved it so much, that after two years at university, I took a year out to go and work in France again last year. Was a chalet host, just serving breakfast and dinner to guests, meaning i had all day free to ski. Stuck here in UK for one more year, before I'm back next winter. (and the one after that, and after that, and after that!!) I have two weeks off starting next week though, and i'm taking a trip to the alps, yeah!!

Do it man, its so worth it. It'll give you a great experience, and a chance to chill, after high school. You'll meet so many cool people, and make great friends for sure. Plus, obviously, its a chance to really step it up with your skiing.

you got to go to a college that is located really close to a big ski resort. thats wut im doin

the shit hasnt even begun to hit the fan

I decided to take some time off for travelling, and ended up going skiing. That was 4 years ago, Im still travelling, still a ski bum, and loving it. Great lifestyle, just be prepared to do it forever

I'm a senior now and i tried to convince my parents that the best way for me to get into the college mode is to take a year off and live out of my car and ski instruct in Aspen for some green.

Im taking a year off now and I should be a freshman in High school

I've been thinking of it and it doesn't sound impossible. We even have 'the' Volkswagen van ready.

Couple of years to think about it though.

I spent a winter in Whistler after I graduated high school. Don't do it unless you plan on staying there forever because once you go back home, you'll spend every day for the rest of your life wanting to go back.

yeah Im taking a year off next year and probably moving out to Utah either to Park City or Salt Lake. I might move into Montana so I can go to school there for a cheaper price the next year, but I'm not sure.

yeah, I am either planning on going to a school with ski programs...or taking a year off between highschool and college, and just spend my days and nights rippin up the pow. What would be a good job to get while at some major resorts? I was thinking either a lift operator, or instructor, or bartender/waiter. ne ideas?

I wanted to do this soo bad when I was in high school and then in college. I'm 22 years old and have just graduated and now have a desk job in cubicle-world. I think about skiing every day when I look out the window and see snow.

Trust me man, do this now because one day you're going to wake up and realize that you are grown-up....you've got you're whole life to grow up....use this time now to live it up like cocoa puffs. I'm still trying to be young...everyone around me is getting married and having kids....meanwhile I'm trying to learn how to ski twin tips and plan on spending two weeks in Chile this summer skiing in the Andes. Do what you really want to do now.....Do what your parents want you to do later.

four of my friends are doing that this year out in Montana. working in ski shops and doing volunteer ski patrol for free passes at big sky. im stuck in high school now but am going out to visit them for a month in february. next year for sure. thinking maybe salt lake, tahoe, or whistler. or living in a car and doing all of them.

yea i am definatly taking time off after highschool. I am a senior now and plan to head to whistler next fall/winter. cant wait to spend tine out there. probably never gonna wanna come back east and stay ski bummin my whole life. Its the best lifestyle and def. the most fun i'll have my whole life. CANT WAIT

for my first two years of college I just went 1st semester and took off winter to live at a resort. then took summer classes after ski season was over and didnt get that far behind and got to ski all winter. But this year i decided to move to utah to goto school year round and ski at the same time. I win

God is an American.

ya dude...i am doing it this year...save up...because it sux living off pringles and beer and those 64cent buns in the cafeteria...my home now is whislter blackcomb...i payed shit all for my seasons pass and 15 dollars for a park pass...

its really frustrating seeing all your friends in school tho while your out doing shit...but realistically if you do it you are probably the only person out of all you friends doing what they want to do...and there will be a few cool people who tell you 'yeah right on take a year off fuck around' but most likely there will be more anal people telling you 'get a job' 'go to school'...

i did it and i dont regret it...but i actually miss school and alot of the time get jealous of my friends who are away

good advice kid take it or leave it

I'm thinking of doing it too. School's always going to be there. But my best skiing buddy thinks I'm nuts. I guess I need new friends.

I'm in my last year of high school and in Vancouver so the good thing is that I can spit and hit Whistler.

Read birdand1's post and respect.

Do it while you can! Once you hit the working world you're stuck. I can only ski on the weekends now with every one else.

Eggs and bacon please, eggs over skeezy

I'll do it with you!

But see, I chose a line of work that doesn't exactly need anything other than a laptop and some quite time, so I guess I'd still be working even though I'm bumming. If that makes sense

On my way to goddom

You can't do it without the pimped out volkswagon van. It's impossible!

ok, so now we all want to do it.... those of you who did do it inform us on the basics. where/how did you find a place to live. did you find a job before you moved. about how much did it cost a month. all those things. i only have one semester left of school and im planning on moveing to whistler, are there any other americans out there who did this, did you have problems because you were from a different country? please tell us (or me)

Sounds like a great plan to you, but do your parents approve? Good luck convincing them. Heh.

I'm a senior now and I thought it would be AMAZING to do something like that, but I'm not gonna take a year off I'm going to college. However, me and a bunch of friends have decided to take a lot of trips during college breaks...This year over winter break we went to Montreal for a while, then next year maybe somewhere else like out west, and second or third year we plan on doing a Austria-Germany-Switzerland kinda thing during our break. THAT would be awesome. Good luck though, hope everything works out. Might I suggest trying Utah instead of Whistler though? I'm sure either place has a lot to do and a lot of jobs, and great skiing....go to Whistler for the nightlife though.

We'll have you dead pretty soon.

im in colorado now, and im thinking whistler or find somewhere clost to aspen, or maybe go to montana for big sky or somewhere else.... i dont know. my parents are totally cool with it, now i just need to figure out where to go and housing and all that stuff. i kinda would perfer whistler over other places though.

the college i am going to is like 20 min from the slopes so i want to gt a job their or something it's not taking off but i will be close and able to ski everyday

I've been to whistler and it was so rad. But I'm also from ontario so anywhere without ice is rad. There was so much powder and it was april. The landings are soft also.
