My son Asher just turned three and I gave him a pair of skis for his birthday. He's way too short for the shortest skis you can buy, so I chopped the tips off an old pair K2's and made some bindings out of webbing. I'm really excited to introduce him to the sport and I hope he has as much fun as I've had. He'll be able to say he's been skiing longer than he's been using the potty!
Anyone starting their kid on skis this year?

Check out ebay, it's the only way you can afford kids stuff. I got a used pair of volkl 80cm for $50 with bindings and obermeyer jacket and pant for $70, then to top it off tecnica boots for $20. I highly recommend clamping the tips together. My 4 year old son requests my Powder & SAM magazines for his bedtime books, he loves to count the chairlifts, gondolas, and groomers!

I got started skiing around 20 months old. Mostly running around the snow in my boots but I skied a little. Do they really not make any skis for children that age?

the bindings wouldnt go small enough unless he put dif. bindings on.
They are here, tons of them, they just rarely post. Your parents are watching! hahahaha J/K
Best advice!
Get him new boots every year and sell last years stuff at ski swaps. Most of my kids stuff resold often paid for new stuff each year. If you don't know already learn to ski switch, clamp the tips together and play "catch me" they will instinctively learn to turn much better when they are focused in something in front of them. At least that was my experience with teaching my sons at 2 an 3 years old.

^agreed i tought kids (4-6 years old) for three years, they don't understand all the technical stuff the best way is for them to just do it, like papasteeze said get him to follow you around, play follow the leader.
I taught ski lessons last season, and i agree, the best way for them to learn is to just follow you around. Thats how i learned too!
Funny story: when i was learning to ski, i wanted to be just like my brothers, but my one-piece wouldn't fit over my diapers, so my dad told me I either had to be potty trained, or no skiing. I chose the better one.
