I just got my loan yesterday and im buying an ATV and a motorcycle, I'm thinking ninja500r would be a great starter bike to learn on. I was wondering if any of you have rode one and could give me some input on it?

Im buying one because they are dirt cheap, you can pick up one with like 4ooo miles on it for 2k-2.5k. Once I learn how to ride Ill resell it for 2k or whatever it's worth at that point and buy a real bike.

id go for a yamaha yzf r6

i 'm so mad that bhill kicked me off the team!!!11!1one!!!11!!1eleventyone!1

You will want to upgrade that thing after a week of riding. My buddy did that. Ideally it's nice to start off on a smaller bike but you will probably want to upgrade after a little while.

or a ninja zx6r. and you cant go wrong with a suzuki gsxr 600. but you should be ok with the 500

Don't go buy some monster bike and wreck yourself though. You should learn on something smaller for sure. It would be shitty to have a bad experience right off the start. Best of luck!

Yeah Ideally starting out with a 600RR bike would be good but, I'd rather crawl into the sport as slow as possible. I tend to be an adrenaline junky known to do stupid things on a constant basis, so a faster bike probably isn't the answer,

buy a dirtbike...

you could do that too. buy like a 700cc dual purpose dirtbike. make you look REALLY gay riding it on the road.

thats the 4 wheeler i was looking at. believe me, for the extra couple dollars, buy a yamaha yfz 450. its faster, and as far as im concerned, a better 4 wheeler. and ill trust yamaha over honda anyday as ive had problems with honda dirtbikes

i 'm so mad that bhill kicked me off the team!!!11!1one!!!11!!1eleventyone!1

Thats funny I feel exactly the opposite. I know the YFZ is a little bit better bike but I just don't feel they are as durable as the hondas. I've seen too many friends rag out banshees in less than a year, 300Ex although slow, lasts forever.

It seems like the Honda comes off the showroom a little better equipped for woods riding/XC racing where the Yamadog is more of a MX bike. It's a tough call I've hashed it out in my head for a few monthes now and I think the 450r is the right choice for me.

you are right. in the long run, they are basically the same bike, i think the yamaha is more geared towards racing.

Plus I found a dealership that will sell me '05 new off the showroom floor for 5395$, and I found a dealership in Utah thats price matches so when I get home hopefully I can buy one in that price range.

im in the same position as you. i dont know what dirtbike i shold get. i definietly dont want a honda, and i wouold LOVE a KTM (too expensive). so now i have it down to a suzuki rm125, yamaha yz125, and a kawasaki kx125.

i 'm so mad that bhill kicked me off the team!!!11!1one!!!11!!1eleventyone!1

Yeah KTMs are hot, there was this guy that used to ride our trails on a 300MXC (sp?) that thing was a fucking crotch rocket on dirt. There was this highwall we used to climb (about 70 feet tall) straigght up and down for the last 25 feet you had to hit it gooing 4th gear wide open on my mojave to make it. This guy got like a ten foot headstart in 1st and 2nd gear and zoomed right up the fucking thing. I used to have to get a 300 foot run for it.

Anyway enough rambling, I'm a fan of Saki dirtbike lots of my friends used to ride Kx's and they seemed pretty solid.

wow, how can anyone ever say yamahas are better. they are probably the second best manufact. but they are faaaaaar behind honda. hondas do not break down. its that simple. ive had my 300ex for just about one year now and i've changed the oil twice, thats it. ride red.

Hah, yeah it is. Actualy the loan is for 5.49% which is only 2 points above inflation so real interest is roughly 2%a.p.r. I'm putting 20% down and have a limit of 10k to spend. So, my payments should be roughly 140$ a month for 48 months to have two badass toys, I dont even drink and I prolly spend that much a month on booze. It's easy to cut the "latte" factor out of your budget if you want something. I think it's worth it

make sure when you get the trx, get the black one, not panzy ass red. the all black is badass.

i 'm so mad that bhill kicked me off the team!!!11!1one!!!11!!1eleventyone!1

Definetly getting the black, no question there. Although I might get a different bike. Some guy who rides pmed me a long message trying to talk me out of the bike so now Im gonna rethink my strategy

^thats a nice bike but i would start off on something round a cheap 500 - 600 cc bike. i heard the ninja was great and you will most likely be able to sell it again for whatever youre buying it for. im sure if you got this thing you're gonna be pissed when you lay the thing down making a mistake. its nicer to know that you havent payed out the ass and ruined a nice bike. thats a sweet ATV though man. i could have fun with something like that

Yes, I have and it would be a waste of money. If you want a starter bike, buy a starter bike and then buy a 600 ninja when you're ready. A 500 ninja is not worth buying, as it isn't a beginner bike or an actual race bike (assuming you want one as you want a ninja).

IM kinda in the same boat as u, im lookin for a 250 or 125 dirt bike, and i want a crotch rocket soooo bad. I'm gonna go with a 600cc sport bike for a starter. This guy i know in britan races enduro and he was tellin me that the ninja 6r was a perfect starting bike, he said dont go lower cuz you'll wanna move up in size after like a month. And my neighbour's wife across the street started on one and shes fine.

Merse you sexy potatoe you better be doing some thing fucking crazy up there, see yea soon br-ah

What would you cosider a beginers bike then? Keep in mind I have about 3k to dump into one, since the top of the line atv is a higher priority at the moment

a true starter bike would be a rebel 250 or any other kind of 250. As uncool as that may be, that's a beginner bike. Another good option, one that I took, was to find an older (80s) 500-600 cc bike. It's just as big as the one you want now, but they definitly arent as fast, being 15+ years old. That option would get you used to the size and weight of the 600ninja, but you wouldn't die as easily.

I can't really explain why the 500ninja isn't a good starter bike. I've ridden it and it just wasn't something I'd start off on.

Types of bikes I ws talkin about: (80's/early 90's):

Yamaha Radian

Yamaha Seca/Seca II

Kawasaki GPz550

Suzuki GS550

Any type of 600 cruiser.

I have an 04 ninja zx6r. It was my first street bike and I've handled things very well. But I've been riding dirtbikes for quite a while and am just generally a crazy asshole anyway. I'm at the point now where the 636 is ready for a trade in on a 1k. So I think you should be fine starting with a 600cc+ bike.

Trouble maker whaaaat!!!

why doesn't anyone like hondas???? they are so sick. anyways don't get that bike. it doesn't even look cool, it looks gay. thats the main reason i dont care for ninjas. i say get a cbr600f4i or the gsx r600. both sick bikes. make the right decision man.

-Tim

i for sure wouldnt get an r6 as my first bike....600cc engine but its geared alot different than say a yzf600r, which would make an awesome first bike. i learned on a 600r and im riding a 2001 R1 now. pics coming shortly

Sorry... i haven;t... but i am rolling on a Suzuki bandit 1200 right now. I am buying a Honda VTX 1800 C next week though. I almost bought a Haybusa, but i decided that i would rather not die just yet.

We gonna whack it til the wheels fall off.

Actually, the newly designed 636 ninja won a bunch of awards and placed top in the 600 ratings among the r6, cbr600rr, gixer600r and the daytona600. The ninja liter bike did similar in it's class.

Now I'm looking at Suzuki vs 650, I was told by Deezl that it would be a perfect sport starter bike, anyone ridden one of those?

We pay our debt sometimes.

You mean an SV650? with the ladder type frame? If so, Yes I've ridden one and its INCREDIBLE. SOOOO Light, fast, but controllable. I'd say if you want a bike to start off with and keep, that'd be the one. It's EASILY controllable, so if you took the msf course and learned to safely ride, do it.

open up, we're coming inside. What's it feel like to know you're gonna die?

You recommend the course? I was planning on taking one when I get home so I can get a permit or whatever so I can testdrive shit. Im thinking the sv might be my bike now
