I was a ski racer in the Eastern Townships (on a quebec zone team) for 4 years, and I was just curious if there's anyone here on NS that is, or used to be on a racing team.

I find being on that team gave me great technique and kind of a fearless feeling about skiing, and that's pretty much why I became an NS skier.

How'd you guys get into NS skiing?

Im sure there are TONS of guys on here with racing backgrounds.

I saw the movie 13 in a ski shop, and was like WTF? sweet. i didn't end up buying a pair of orignial k2 enemies, with the pro-usa flag style on the bottom, until a few season after, when i could ski a little better, and Now i fucking rip!! i wish....

How can people bash racing... it's so much fun! And it seriously gives you the proper technique and the right mindset to carry over into NS skiing.

And Agreed... People, like the others said, don't start bashing racing. I was just curious how many of ya's are/were racers.

a friend of mine who was a racer said she didn't have fun racing, but it was fun winning...so is that what you meant when you say it's so much fun? or do you enjoy actually racing regardless of outcome

during a race they had at my mountain last year, like half the racers were hauling around on twintips before the racing started. i know a racer who kills it at freestyle too

I have been racing since I was 4 years old and I just recently dropped it this year cause I wanted to spend more time progressing at NS skiing.

AND DON'T EVEN get me started on the insane speed of progression if you have been racing for a long long time.

i've never raced competively in my life. i feel like the ugly duckling around here, in ontario, cause basically every skier i know is a racer.

I used to race out of Owls Head, but I stopped cause I never had that competitive mindset, or the desire to do it. It was fun for a little while, but in the end i preferred freeskiing.

I dont think racing gives you the RIGHT technique, cause you look at some big mountain guys that have never raced before, and you cant say that theyre doing it wrong, its just a different style. Racing does give you GOOD technique though, and i find that ex-racers tend to be very well rounded skiers once they actually drag their ass outta the course. They adapt very well.

 
i used to race fis and ussa, but i quit cause it was so involved in somethin i didnt want to do that much. THen ii got into NS skiing

i race for my high school cuz this way i can ski during the week so it's all good plus racing teaches u the fundamentals that every skier should know

I raced up until 2 years ago at the FIS level... went to most of the races in ontario, quebec, and local races in the maritimes...

i raced a lot when i was little, haven't for a long time though but i'm going to this year on my high schools team...which means some tight over night ski trips with the coach who is soo chill...haha

i raced for a bit and hated it. i hated being told what to do and how to do it. and it was all way too stressful...if your super competitive and shit then i guess its fun but ive always hated it cause of htat

Racers are gay. It's okay when someone quits racing to do newshcool but I hate it more when poeple who race try to do tricks but just suck

i race but not hardcore, were i am if you can ski doing parallel turns your going to go real far in the local comps haha, oh well i screwed up though, i went first and was trying to look stylie and relaxed, and being aggressive certainly helps your time...

+ time of school to go and you get to go skiing with friends in other places, we got to the south islands it was like a holiday

i race, but its mostly to get to other mountains for free and to skip school. and plus some of the racer chick are hot

 
yeah i've raced through high school and doing ussa this year it kicks ass but you have to free ride at least some time to keep sane.

Yeah I had a zuit-suit (spandex suit) but I never used it in anything but important races cause it looked really gay and it causes some insane discomfort in the 'forbidden zone'.

I race. but im fuckin over it. too many rules. im still doing it this year tho cuz i dont have school at all in the winter and i'll be traveling to alot of good resorts. we have a four day FIS race at squaw and i told my coach that i was only gonna race one of the days, cuz the other three i'm gonna ride the mountain. he was pissed when i told him that. oops...
