Anyone out there NOT using social media?

I'm curious, in todays day in age when everyone is so connected, is there anyone out there that does not partake in social media? If so, why not? It seems extremely rare to find anyone below the age of 30 without any social media, it's become the norm.

To be honest, I'm one of those people. No facebook, instagram, twitter, tinder or whatever else people are using these days. Alot of my friends give me shit for it all the time. I guess I got sick of [had a facebook a few years ago] notifications, messages and the whole thing. I know everyone else is all about that, but having a "busy mind" as it is it was just one more thing taking up head space. I also find that it makes life much easier to live in the moment. Not thinking about status updates, people waiting on my reply, taking pictures just to post online with no real significance, not staring at my phone as life passes by - its nice not having to think about all that. I find it enriches life in general. Anyone else smell what im steppin in?

Had none until this fall, but still only have Facebook and Instagram, and the facebook hardly gets used.

My life hasn't changed much now that I use instagram. I used to take pictures of cool shit I saw/did, now I take pictures of cool shit I see/do and share them.

I have facebook, twitter, and instagram. I never use facebook, rarely use twitter, and occasionally use instagram to pass the time.

I have a Facebook I barely use and snapchat but that is literally it. Never really into seeing how many likes or favorites I could get on a picture.

I would say newschoolers counts for some sort of media, especially if you're uploading pics and vids.

I'm about to get rid of Twitter, all it is, is people ranting about relationships and unrealistic life goals

I have a facebook with 0 friends (Loners gotta be alone you know!) I use it mostly during the winter to get updates from my local hill. Other than that the only thing that I am really even active on is my Google+ account which is mostly used for YouTube comments.

Isn't NS technically social media?

I guess it depends how you look at it. I don't consider forums as social media. Forums for the most part are largely anonymous unless you choose otherwise.

I use very very little. Facebook is the only social media I have used in the last 5 or 6 years. I only go on there for news.

I have also put up with a lot of shit from friends and even family for being "off the grid". It's a great lifestyle, I don't have a lot of friends because of it, but I am so much happier.

I'm interested to know of those who have Facebook but don't really use it, how old are you? I heard Facebook has not really been taken on by younger generations as pretty much all their mums ect are on there so they don't see it in the same way people more my age do.

Personally i I use facebook for everything. I don't actually have a phone contract as with Facebook I can contact anyone I need at any time pretty much and it free.

I use Instagram but more to show what I'm workin on for ns not as a social thing.

Twitter only for the brands to retweet an get views that way, I never personally use it.

I deleted Facebook and year ago and am completely indifferent to it and other social media

I don't really feel like I'm missing much

My phone broke awhile ago and I decided not to replace it. I don't play any video games either so I am basically forced to go outside and find something fun to do. It really feels nice. Our ancestors lived without this stuff and I think we should too.

Newschoolers

Snapchat (if that counts)

Never had a facebook, instagram, nothing...

And i'm 17

I have facebook, but I only ever log on if I need to contact someone whose details I don't have on my phone. Really can't stand that site. For the most part it's just narcissists with low self-esteem and short attention-spans trying to impress everyone. Maybe that's a bit harsh, but really, the whole layout of it is designed to promote the whole "look at me! look what I've done!" thing. I hate that shit. Why are people so focused on fame and likes and "being" someone? So nah, I don't really use social media. My life is perfectly functional without it, too

I think I heard this on a podcast recently, maybe elsewhere...but I thought it was pretty accurate. "Most people on facebook/twitter aren't looking for friends, they're looking for an audience" Obviously a broad generalization, but theres definitely some truth in that.

I would say it depends totally on the generation. I'm in my 30's and facebook is my personal thing. It's how I contact and keep in touch with people.

Instagram am is what I use for an audience as wit hash tagging and tagging brands ect it's muc easier to reach out to new people

I used to think like that, blocked my facebook for a year but then I realize, whats the problem with having one?

No problem with having one. To say its some ego driven "spiritual" new age hipster crap is just [plain wrong] & righting it off. I certainly don't fit the description of your chart. The difference between me and you leaving social media is that after I left I didn't miss it. I never saw a reason to make another account. It works for me. If facebook gets you off, all the more power too you.

Another big plus about not having social media is not having to play the relationship status game. Pretty much all my previous girlfriends and I have at one point or another argued about facebook, whether it was relationship statuses or whos commenting on whos picture. That shit was so childish and annoying. Anxiety over facebook? Give me a break, no thanks.

at least to me, anyone that is seeking approval and recognition for deleting all their social media is no different than the people who whore their lives out through it as well. its fine that you deleted social media, but lets not act like its the same thing as quitting smoking or something.

Haha whatever man. This basis of this thread was a question, nobody was seeking approval. Besides the fact you act like its a taboo that cant be talked about. If its not your cup of tea great, no need to try and bring down the thread...heh and I quit smoking too, does that impress you?
