Anyone on NS have ADD/ADHD?

Just got diagnosed with it yesterday and today is the first day on meds. All I'm gonna say is that if this is what normal people feel like, I've been missing out for the past 16 years. It feels like I'm on that NTZ shit in the movie limitless (not really, but you get the idea). I can read for more than 2 minutes without falling asleep, I can do math in my head, and for the first time since I started drinking/smoking I don't feel the need to be high or drunk. If you think you might have it, go get evaluated. I can already tell its gonna be life-changing.

your on speed, thats not what normal people feel like, guaranteed.

i was prescribed vyvanse for a couple months, and quit because all it did was make me feel shitty and depressed using it day after day. i feel so much better all round without the shit.

From my understanding, it balances the chemicals in my brain to normal levels. Dosage isn't high enough to get me tweakin like a meth head. ADD is caused by a lack of dopamine. By being on Vyvanse, my dopamine levels are raised to the levels of "normal" (average) people. I'm not sure about "feeling" exactly, but when I'm on meds I'm betting my function is definitely the same as my peers without ADD. Maybe you were misdiagnosed, or just had some bad side effects.

yeah, i have adhd and have taken pills, but no that not what "normal people think like" you are on a drug. even though the drug may help you get over some problems that add provides you, there are also numerous side effects from the drug that do not pertain to a "normal person's thinking"

but anyway, I'm glad they help you out. just remember to take them as prescribed and don't abuse them

I have really bad ADHD. I take concerta and have been taking it since 5th grade. It definitely helps me focus and calms me down I can feel the difference but it has downsides, too. It makes me less hungary and fucked with my growth a lot. It also kinda made me more shy. I would be nowhere academically without it though. It's a love/hate relationship and feel free to pm me with any questions about add/adhd in general.

I'm not sure if I agree with that. The drug "fixes" the brain. When someone with ADD is on meds, the chemical levels in their bran are on par with the levels of their peers without ADD. That's why it works. I'm sure physically I may feel different than most people because it's a stimulant, but I'm talking strictly mentally. It's hard to argue one way or the other, because someone with ADD can't know for sure what someone without it feels like and vice versa. You have to go by the numbers and the data about chemical levels in the brain, and those numbers say that when I'm on Vyvanse my brain is functioning the same as someone's who doesn't have ADD and isn't on meds.
Regardless, if it works for me, it works. I'm not going to question it if it fixes my problems and was prescribed by a doctor.

Yeah people who actually have ADD or ADHD take it and it has the opposite effect that it does on people with out it. If you don't actually have ADD like myself and you take vyvanse or adderall it acts as an amphetamine... because there are amphetamines in the drug itself. But when you have the actual disease it slows yourself down from thinking all over the place and helps you focus on one thing at a time. It just makes you more efficient and they do feel normal and they can eat on it and they can sleep on it. However if i took it yes i would be focused but i wouldn't be able to sleep or eat on it. I'm against all medicine used as a narcotic or not. Yeah yeah some kids actually have add but some kids just don't know how to study or can't sit still because they don't get enough energy out since all they do is play video games all day. weed, acid, mushrooms, and ib profun (sp) are my drogas. And i'm fine with that.

Boom. If you don't have ADD (lack of dopamine) and you take it, your body stops producing dopamine. If you have ADD and take meds too much, the same thing happens.

inb4 "i dont have ADD/ADHD but i swear i should get perscribed, i take those shits during final exam week and it helps me study sooo much!!"

once you build a good tolerance/ know the effects well enough, take 3 times your dosage.

you will become

I take that back. While it is thought to be a deficiency of Seratonin, all neurotransmitters are deficient in someone with ADD so you are right as well

I have ADHD. I was diagnosed at the age of 9.

Been taking Adderall for the past 8 years.

I abuse and deal that shit like a mofo now. Love-hate relationship to the max.

I got it pretty bad, diagnosed in 4th grade. Medication was suggested, even in 4th grade I was smart enough to tell them to fuck right off. It makes certain things incredibly hard, but I just deal with it. Fuck needing drugs to be normal.

not saying you don't have it, but add and adhd are so over diagnosed. anyone with a basic understanding of the symptoms and the slightest thought that they have it ends up walking outta the doctor's with a prescription.

Haha you sound like I did when I first started taking those meds... be careful though because they SUCK DICK. you will see what i mean...

its almost like you sacrifice feeling good for being good at things...

i feel like the people who are diagnosed in like junior high or high school is bull shit and they think they have problems with focus. I was diagnosed in the 1st grade and have been taking meds for like 10 years. Unfortunately for me i have been unable to grow out of it. When I dont take my meds I am literally like a bull in a china shop. However when I'm on the pill i can focus pretty well but even then I still have some focus problems. And sometimes I focus on the wrong stuff too. For example i will be trying to do mass amounts of homework then i get sidetracked and get super focused on things like NS. So overall meds can be your best friend on one day and the next it could be your worst enemy.

good work on admitting

to dealing a controlled substance on a public forum-

Im out of

college now and have had add since i could remember, was never medicated until

later in college (about half way through). My family is anti-pharmaceuticals-medicine

in general and so am I. I just did the best i could without it. Yes it is over diagnosed, I feel like most parents who dont want to deal with hyper kids load them with add meds,

but it does exist in my opinion. When i was younger I was outside 95 percent of

my free time so its not that I had to much stored energy. And I still couldnt sit still.

The best way i

can describe it is...I would be sitting in class and instead of hearing the

teacher I would hear the leaves blowing/birds...etc. I would completely zone

out everything else and for instance would make the sounds into a song in my head. What I thought

was 30 seconds would end up being 5-10 minutes.

It wasn't intentional, I wouldn't even know it was happening until I

would miss a page of notes. Imagine that over and over, almost 24/7. Thats the simplist way to describe it I think.

dude it does feel like the limitless drug. it totally lets you put your overactive mind to good use and focus it on what you need to do. it's the best thing that ever happened to me.

You think thats bad?

I just raped a girl and murdered her last night, then did black tar herion off her dead body.

Then i stole an elephant and made the elephant eat her remains, along with the rest of my black tar. I then fucked the elephant and killed it, it's in my garage right now.

MRI shows Brain structure not function. To show a different brain activity you would need to use a fMRI or SPECT but both are even more expensive than MRI.

i think that it is a real thing, but that being said, a lot of the symptoms are just normal behaviors among elementary school and teenage boys. parents hear that their 12 year old doesn't want to do his homework, or does't like reading in class, and instead of accepting that these are fairly normal things, they assume he has adhd and put them on adderol.

I have it and I also think it is over diagnosed. I have friends on it and can tell which have it and which do not. If i'm not on it I can't have more than a 1 minute long conversation, I will either think about something else or I will be talking and will just stop because I start to think about something else and lose track of what I am talking about. I get annoyed at my friends who suddenly acquired it in college, it makes more people think it's bullshit. Also, I have a lot of friends who pretty much brag about being on it, ironically they are the ones who don't have the bad symptoms like not eating at all, not being able to sleep, and personality change....

Definitely true. But the psychiatrist sent evaluation forms to my teachers and had my parents fill out some. The forms covered a ton of different disorders, not just ADD, and the teachers results very consistently pointed to ADD. I think it went unnoticed for all of elementary/middle school because I was never required to focus, and I found things that helped me focus. It used to be that I could sit down for 20 minutes and get all my homework done so it wasn't that hard to pull it together. Now in highschool with all the reading and increased workload, I can't just do that. I'd have to sit there for an hour or more, not just 20 minutes. I think a lot of the over-diagnosis comes from parents who never taught their kids the social norms; The kid doesn't have ADD, you just didn't teach him manners.

From my understanding, all those bad symptoms occur when the person doesn't really need it. I definitely do the same thing in conversations as you do. Sometimes I compensate by just starting arguments that keep me interested etc.

I'll just keep buying the meds every once in a while when I really need em from kids around my college. I would never take that shit on a daily basis, shit fucks with you.

Pharmies arent the answer to all of lifes problems. It's amazing that people are dumb enough to support the drug war and at the same time go all out for every pharmy that might help them or their kids.

I wish people would think a little bit before putting their young kids on pharmies.

i just smoked weed and that worked for me. I didn't take any of my meds I was supposed to for various things.

like i said, im not saying you don't have it.

and i believe the over diagnosis comes from several different things. lack of manners being one of the least impactive

Seriously. I think way too many kids just cop out and say, "oh, I can't focus, I must have a medical condition", when in reality they're just lazy and have no willpower to do something they need to do. I don't like studying, and think a lot about other shit I'd rather be doing while I study, but realize I have to do it if I want to pass.

School fucking sucked dude ,

I think I had ADD but it didn't exist yet

naaah wasn't ADD , it's just ... ADD

-Tanner Hall

meth does the same thing /claim , but seriously i have it and only take the meds before long amounts of homework ..... i also sell it to my friends because they use it for homework .

Alright I know this is an old thread but I have a question about ADD/ADHD.

I firmly believe I have severe ADD or ADHD. I've been talking to my parents about it and my mom said "we'll get you counseling." I don't think "counseling" will help. At all. I have an appointment to get evaluated in a few weeks, do they even offer counseling for ADD? I think I need to be medicated.

People like you believe that the only treatment for a disorder (with ADD in this example) is through popping pills.

Yes its the easiest, but long term it isn't a solution.

If you do really have it, then your counselor will just talk with you about ways to be more productive and stuff and ways it is affecting you. You will almost always need to go to a counselor (which is 10000% better if it is a psychiatrist) so they can do a mental eval.

TL;DR:

They always send you to a counselor first. See if it helps.

I went from ADHD to ADD and have never taken medication. Frankly I see it as more of an excuse. My brother has been previously diagnosed with bipolar disorder, then the doctors rethought and decided it was incredibly severe ADHD. He is currently almost off all his medication and will be completely off it by the end of the year. He is a honors student in school as well. He went from taking 10+ pills a day, making him overweight and depressed, to 1 (maybe 2) a day and seems happier than ever. Honestly any medication for ADHD just makes it worse and is helping to avoid the problem.

I've been on meds for ADD/ADHD for over 10 years now. While I do think it's over diagnosed, I know that taking medication has helped me. People can say "fuck meds" but the fact is, if its working, then why not take them to help yourself live a better life. It took me 2 1/2+ years to get the right combination of drugs and I feel like I can now be a completely functioning individual thanks to them.

Agreed. What ever happened to kids being kids. Its just a way to make people conform by putting them on drugs that turn them into a zombie.

Seriously. Plus, all the chemical filled shit we feed kids today has been proven the increase these hyperactive tendencies. So essentially we are making kids ADHD then pumping them full of meds to counteract the damage we've done.

If this is the case, then there is a lot more underlying problems than ADHD

That being said, there is a significantly higher probability of being diagnosed with depression, bipolar, schizo.

ADHD are usually diagnosed and noticed when the person is younger, say pre-mid puberty. Bipolar, depression, schizo all start pretty much mid-late puberty and isn't diagnosed till the person is fairly far along.

It takes time for the patient to develop and for doctors to see what the true issues are.

From the big weight-gain, that sounds nothing like ADHD amphetamine meds, and more like anti-depressants or something like that.

On ADHD meds I always shed weight like a fuckin Somalian

I know he wasn't on anti-depressants but from probably 5-16 years of age he was literally on 10+ pills a day. It caused some of his baby teeth to never develop and made him go from a healthy child to weighing almost 200lbs. I also know that for a long time doctors thougt that it was bipolar disorder because he would have intense "rage" episodes, but as he slowly grew his symptoms slowly developed into those that fit the category of ADHD. I know he has been on ritalin and adderall, but there was a whole bunch of other meds he used to be on as well. Couldn't tell you what they were though

i got meds for it when i was in 4th grade, it made me lose my appetite and feel depressed so i started cheeking it, and i quit taking it a few years later

Yeah my parents put me on a ridiculous does, and it made me antisocial as fuck. So i stopped taking them, you definitely out grow it, thats what makes me think its a bullshit diagnosis, at least for most people, some people are just wired and actually need it for life.
