Hey guys,

Upgrading from my gh2 to likely a Blackmagic camera. Wondering if anyone on here has experience with either of the cameras. Both cameras look like you need to spend at least another grand to make them functional. If anyone does have experience with the BMCC, what are you using for an external battery? Also, what do you find are other essential accessories for it? Both cameras look like they have a ton of pros and cons. What do you guys think is the better camera to get? I likely won't need the 2.5k raw in the next year, so will be shooting ProRes and maybe raw if I go the pocket... Both cameras I would get the speed booster specific to it. Really on the fence about this...

Only issue I have with the BMCC is no 60p of any form.

IMO, i'd get a gh3 if you wanna upgrade or an fs100.

I've used the BMCC a couple times and I like it. The menu is SUPER basic and has issues like white balance points of 3200K, 4000K, 5000K 5500K, with no in between. You'd need at least 2x SSDs, some sort of battery solution - like Vmount or gold mount.

If your cool with only 24fps and buying the extras, i'd so go for it. Especially with the speed booster, its a sick camera.

iv'e worked with it a bunch as well and this sums it up pretty good ^

definitely need an external battery for it but with some of the extras, the picture quality is amazing. the only downside of shooting RAW is the amount of space it takes up, but if you have some extra space, it is definitely worth it because the picture quality is awesome.

Wait for Panasonic's new camera to drop.

Having said that, the GH2/3 are the only cameras I would consider for shooting skiing.

id love a pocket camera but it seems way too light haha. I don't know how im going to hold a 12 gram camera with a heavy metal lens on the front steady without a massive rig

Thanks for the feedback guys. Yah, no 60p is a downside for sure. I'm not to into the BMPCC anymore, but pretty close to pulling the trigger on a BMCC. It sucks, a camera like an FS would be a lot more practical for me, but I can't justify the upgrade from the GH2; personally, don't see a huge difference in the IQ. This year, I've hardly shot "action" skiing, more tourism/ commercial work, so I hope I'd be able to get away with no 60p. I looked back and thought about it, a lot of people were crushing edits in action sports for quite so time with just 5d's. With the whole package for the BMCC, I'd be spending at least 5k (EVF, Speedbooster, new ND, etc). So, then a FS700 seems tempting too, or just hold of for a deal on a Scarlet.

decisions! im gonna talk my buddy into possibly doing an edit with his black magic. we'd still have a b cam for the slow mo but if that happens ill be sure to let you know in case that helps your decision. haha but i could also post a vid that will make you want the fs700. but then there's plenty of stuff to wanna wait for a red too
