Anyone notice the search is getting better?

Slowly but surely, Google is re-indexing the site with our much more helpful page titles.

I just tried searching for Salomon Foil and got all kinds of helpful results from reviews to forum threads in gear talk...

What do you guys think, as its improving do you like it more?

 
honestly i just skip right to the advance search. i guess I will try to use the google one more often now though and see where it gets me.
 
Yeah the site was all fucked up for google... but we're completely overhauling it.

I think you'll start to find the google search begin to get a whole lot more helpful. I mean... google is pretty advanced search ya know?

 
i still honestly hate it. i mean sure its super accurate and all, but with the old one i like the option of just searching pictures, or threads. now its a bit confusing
 
i still skip directly to advanced search, i can see it being good in time but i get all confused when the results are different from the normal searchbar
 
Searched my user name and the top hit was my profile so i suppose its pretty dope now, kinda confusing tho.
 
Yeah the idea is that the new search allows you to see many different types of info. So if you search for Tanner Hall, or Salomon Foil, you'll get results from news, reviews, different forums, blogs, pictures, videos, blogs, etc. It is nice if you're looking for a cross section of all things related.

I personally like that better than just individual sections, but I'm only one opinion. Have you guys been giving it a go, and finding the results useless, or just skipping it?

 
If I'm looking for a specific thread I'll go straight to advanced search, if i'm just looking for general info about skis or something Google search is pretty legit
 
i have had pretty good luck with it. have been able to find specific threads that i was looking for, which was kind of my main complaint before. sometimes you still get a TON of responses to yer search, but usually the most pertinent ones seem to be at the top.
 
I think thats the main difference... the google search gives you a cross-section of what you're looking for, whereas the old search allows you to search specific sections.

Tough call... We're not opposed to switching back to the old search bar, as the google one doesn't cost anything (actually we make about $2/day off of it) but I just want to see if it improves over time. Its a really quick switch, so if you guys don't mind we'll keep using the google one for a month or two, and if shit hasn't gotten better we'll trash it and go back to the old one.

 
Use the searchbar and it'll get better over time. I have noticed that its been better recently with what I've been searching for.
 
i've started trying to figure it out and it is a lot better, once you kinda figure out how things are prioritized it's easy to use, i like the variety of results especially just searching usernames, it's easier than the advanced search
 
oh haha i thought it said "search is getting bigger", and so i looked up and the search bar is infact bigger that before, and i was gonna ask why its growing...but now i get it.
 
Kind of. But when you search thug. THe number one result is Dane Tudor. Dane's the man granted, but I'd feel better if it was a picture of you D.Bish
 
haha you could set it up so if you search for like "bro" or "supersickawesomesurferdude" it just comes up with bishops profile, totally insta-status right there
 
ya i just like the thread names because when i do the google search i get alot of stuff on peoples profiles
 
if i had any money id pay you $2 a day to get rid of the damn thing, is there anyway to include the google search as an option in the old better search bar? or possibly have both? its kind of annoying having to go through advanced search. i have been trying it by the way just not found it very useful at all so far?:)
