Anyone know anything about subaru engine swaps?

i have a 2006 impreza wagon i plan on eventually making into an sti...doing suspension in the spring and hopefully engine swap in the summer...
my question is, since there are a ton of different versions of jdm gc8 engines(8, specifically), which one will give the best bang for my buck for a daily driver? the main difference in V3 and V4 is the open deck blocks with the 4th, so i was thinking either version 2 or version 3, as ill still be putting out around 260hp from the engine

But seriously, check what's available locally at a fair price first. In Montreal, there's a JDM import shop on every street corner, but I doubt it's the same in the US.
