Anyone in the Portland area know of any places that rent cars to under 21?

Pretty sure it’s a federal law or some shit that you have to be 21+. I could be wrong though, I have been once.

Save up or take out a personal loan on a reliable car, use it for your trip then sell it when you get back. If you just use it for a summer registration and insurance will be cheap and you should be able to sell it for what you bought it for or close to it. I'd imagine it'd be hard to find someone who will rent to someone who's 19. Maybe there's a way your parents can help? Idk

Yo, I think your car is gonna be fine. I drove across the country a few times in a 1998 volvo with 400000 miles, and just did it again in a newer one (with a reputation for unreliability) with around 150000 miles. No issues either way. You shouldn't have any trouble, especially if the HGs just got worked over. However, if you really don't want to take your car, Uhaul will rent to under 21s. Rented one to tow my first car home across Michigan/Ontario when I was 18. All they want is a credit card and a pulse.

Send it OP, solo or with some buddies, the adventure driving across the states will be something you will look back on for the rest of your life. Hood will just be the cherry on top. Ive ridden motorcycles all across the states, its all about the adventure, not the destination.

Try and find someone w a van in OR to pick you up from the airport. It will be cheaper than renting a car 100%.

Check Plugs, coil packs, tranny fluid, give er a fresh oil/filter swap, coolant, check struts for leaks and sagging, check cv axles for ripped boots or clunking noises, check all the suspension for anything broken or loose or wobbley, etc. It's all easy to do/check and no wild tools are required. Everything you want to know is on the internet and it's hard to fk it up.
I'm guessing they did plugs while they were in there for the HG so that may not even be a concern.
Lastly, tires and brakes are everything...
