Anyone a dj on this site? I think it would be cool to get cheaper direct drive turntable and just learn to scratch. My bro used to do this and was a dj for a club but hes long quit and doesnt know of any cheap turntables.. Does anyone know what brands or where to go to find them? Also what came out before direct drive? Belts? What were MCs using back in the day? Ha sorry Im a noob and just looking for something to do over the summer..

the obvious direct drive standard is Technics 1200, i would say Numark comes second, Gemini prob third. for scratching belt would probably sound really bad, the difference being in the 'delay' it takes for the record to get back to speed after being stopped (shitty torque), if you were just beat matching and fading tracks you wouldn't hear this. look on ebay for used stuff i guess, an average price for one Technics deck is around $400. you probably already know but you can scratch on CD decks, and if you have a small budget vinyl can get expensive quick. there's a DJ cult on here you should check out too,

peace

can I get an invite, and Im looking for a cheaper turntable.. I dont plan on doing anything serious with it just something to do over the summer

you don't need an invite for the cult, i'm not sure how active it is either. don't know what to tell you for deck selection, a gemini/numark belt drive goes for about $150+shipping on ebay, a basic 2 channel mixer probably another $150. factor in cartridges, vinyl, cables, head phones, and you obviously need receiver/amp and speakers,

peace

you could always try out digital scratching first. i recommend traktor.

play around with it for a bit and then you can always decide if you want to pursue it further

vinyl is EXTREMELY expensive to get into. If you want to make some mixes, maybe earn some money doing small parties and such, go for a usb or firewire console. I use the M-Audio Xponent console, and I love it.

It retails for a bit under 700$ and comes with Torq, a computer DJ program. This means you can mix and scratch whatever you have in your itunes. The latency (delay, here I'm referring to delay between scratching on the deck and speaker response) actually surprized me. For any ameteur looking to get into DJing, I would for sure look into the Xponent or something simmilar.

This is what I'm reffering to:

I think you guys are taking me too seriously, I just want to learn on something cheap.. not have the best sounding equipement and make profits.

But this is kinda what I want, like an older used table that I can play some old vinyls on.. Im sure I can find a shop in town with some older rap or something with a strong beat..
