dude, i agree frats have their reputations of being for rich stuck up people. but, the people i've met through it are some of the best friends i have! some may say, 'oh you paid for your friends' all i have to say to that is i got more than i paid for! if something is really gettin to me, i know i can talk to one of the guys and they'll keep it between us. you form a bond with the people in your chapter and that bond is stonger than a lot of the ones i've made in my life! my chapter will always be there for me and i will always be there for them. i did meet people in res and im pretty good friends with all of them but i what i have with my brothers i would never trade for anything in the world. i get shit every now and then from ignorant people who have no idea what it's all about and i really don't give a shit! the only people that really know what fraternities and sororities are all about are those who join them!

Wow, I'm glad you support them so much and they support you. Also, I'm glad your happy.

However, I get all those things with my friends and I didn't pay money to hang out with them. They don't pressure me to do things or make it to gatherings if I am really busy with something else. Granted, you are right, people don't know what a frat is exactly like until they are in one. However, I've had a lot of exposure to frats and frat guys. This includes living next to 4 or so frat guys, some parties at the beginning of the year and just getting to know some through some of my friends. I havn't really met too many frat guys I like let alone would become really good friends with but there are exceptions I'm sure. It's not for everyone but I'm sure some people love it.

nah my bf $1080PLP$ on here is in Alpha Kappa Lambda at the University of Idaho. I hear everything about them both good and bad, and know most the guys there cause i stay in Ty's room when i go to visit, but honestly, I support them. No, I dont think its buying your friends, and its NOTHING like MTV's sorority or frat life.. They have cool social events and the house keeps you responsible. How many dorm resident advisors care about what your grades are, make you improve them and are there to listen to any problem? oh yeah, NONE. In Ty's frat ive heard him complain about people he just can't stand and hate, and then the people who would do anything for and vice versa. My school doesnt have a greek system, and I dont mind, its just the type of school I am at, but it seems that the dorm people and greek people are sooo separated and on totally different levels.

Here's my take, if you care....

The original intent of frats was a great thing, the problem is, they've sunken into a bit of disarray. I went to WSU and the university was finding something wrong with a house or two every year and banning the membership, then, after a year off, they restarted them with new membership. I'm not sure if that really helps anything, but even the guys on here in frats have to admit that most don't do anything to improve the general public's view. I'm well aware of the community involvement of fraternal/sorority groups and as an GDI, I can appreciate that, however I do find that the term 'Meathead' can be more often applied to a Frat guy than an independent. For all you youngsters, go to college, check out the houses, if you find a house that fits you, great, but don't just join a house because its the cool house or whatever, fraternities are their as guides for your college years, not to create a new personality. Personaly, I have a lot of friends in houses, and a lot of friends out...it comes down to the person.

if you live in a fraturnity you relize that when people argue against the greek system almost all of the arguments are very ignorante. There are far more benifits from joining a frat then living in your own place or in the dorms, i am a part of the strongest fraturnity on the U of I campuse and we are the best Alpha Kappa Lambda chapter in the nation 8 years running. I have met some of the most amazing people from this orgainzation. It cost over $200 less per sememester to join a frat then go dorms here at U of I. so why not have some fun while building life long brotherhood? It helps you get jobs, in a job interview a person with a college degree and greek relations will get a prefered treatment because its comon knowlage that frats build leadership and responsiblity on a higher level. hell when I'm in a bind i have hundreds of brothers i can call on at anytime.

I know several people in frats and a few are cool but for the most part at least here at my school theonly point to joining a frat is to party. the popular frats everyone wants to join are like the popular click at high school any one of them would stab another in the back without even thinking about it and this has caused several people i know to leave frats. however the frats that arent in the limelight have a bond that is very tight and they even are very tight with others who have not joined. i see the bonds gained from being in one of the good ones as great but i have the same bonds with my close friends. grated i am sure not all frats are like the ones here but the bad ones are the ones that give all their bad names
