Anyone go to Northern Arizona University

had a few friends that did. sounded fun

i lived in tempe, next to asu.

snowbowl can be fun. if you like park they stepped it up this past year, and it was pretty good.

the mountain itself is good, the terrain is steep and constant. butttttt

the lifts blow dick. and everyone single phoenixian and their dog comes up to ride the weekends and pow days, so expect to only get a handful of laps each day.

I go here now!! im a sophmore this year.. Last year they stepped up their park game 10000x better than previous years.. They had 2 or 3 comps last year and they do this one through the streets of downtown flagstaff which is pretty cool.. The ski scene here is pretty cool, theres some decent skiers up here.. hit me up if you have any questions!!

No, I don't go to NAU, but I live down in Chandler (suburb of Phoenix).

Just to weigh in on Snowbowl - Snowbowl is my home resort and I am very grateful to have it. But, as you may expect, it certainly doesn't compare to Colorado/Utah etc. There are some black runs at Snowbowl, however very few of them are "true blacks." Many of them would be blues at other resorts (easy blues at that).

I've been skiing at Snowbowl for a few seasons now and I'm kind of getting bored of it. I don't ski part at all though, so I have no idea whether I would get bored of that. But I will say Snowbowl for sure beefed up their park last year and they plan to do it again this year.

If you're a park skier, and you go during the week, you should have a good time. If you're like me and you like skiing through trees and finding fun backwoods stuff, you're going to have a little less fun. The main lift at Snowbowl (Agassiz) is slow. It's about a 30 minute ride. The lines usually are only 5-10 minutes during the week, but if you go during school breaks or on a weekend, you'll easily wait 45-60 minutes to get on that lift. Same goes for the lift in the park.

My advice on Snowbowl:

1) If you're a park skier, expect lots and lots and lots of snowboarders. Arizona has 20x more snowboarders than skiers when it comes to park.

2) Avoid Snowbowl like the plague on the weekends. I honestly don't remember the last time I went there on a weekend. Its been several years.

3) If they get a big dumping, they often require snow chains to drive up Snowbowl Road (the access road that takes you from the highway up to the mountain). Keep this in mind. Also, they sometimes close Snowbowl Road for a short time if they get a large storm (thus restricting access to the resort).

Hope you have fun at NAU! Flagstaff is actually one of the snowiest cities in the U.S. Hope you don't mind it.

hahah ^^ typical phoenician, complaining about the lines, complaining about the runs, etc, etc.. The trees can be super fun, there is tons of different lines and tree sections to ski.. Ive been skiing snowbowl for over 5 years and havent gotten remotely bored of it.. Pow days are super fun, and the park had gotten 1000x better the past year and theyre building a bunch of new features for this year. Also, you obviously dont ski the park, or you would know that it is about 50/50 skiers to boarders.

Learn to enjoy being on the mountain, and stop complaining about it

^probably the douchiest thing you could've said

I love Snowbowl. But many of the blacks really are blues in other areas. I skied snowbowl for a while and then went to Colorado and I couldn't believe the difference. I would ski a black and be like "shit that was way harder than I thought it would be. They really do have blues in other states that are much harder than a few of the blacks at Snowbowl.

"obviously you don't ski the park"

^thats right. I dont. but I can see the entire thing when I ride the sunset lift

to the OP - Snowbowl is great and its a lot better than what a lot of skiers/boarders have to put up with. But don't expect it to be anything like UT/CO

yet true, all you phoenix kids do is come up and complain about the lines and dis on snowbowl. Spend a weekend in bear and tell me how the lines are. Yes, snowbowl will not compare to $100+ a day resorts, but they do what they can.. They are finally almost done with the snowmaking system which was a HUGE step in order for them to grow. They have a ton of plans for the near future, and all you phoenicians bitching about the long lines and high ticket prices is not going to help them

Also go ski the back country or over by ship rock on a pow day.. youll see that snowbowl does have some really good terrain

1) "All you phoenix kids do" is a pretty broad sweeping statement. I'm a season pass holder at Snowbowl and I consider myself a part of the local ski scene. Its unfair to pair me with the occasional folks who come up for a couple days a season.

2) "is come up and complain about the lines" false... Its pretty rare that I find myself skiing Snowbowl when there are long lines. I learned that lesson a long time ago and that was the point of my advice to OP

I live in sedona, which is about 35 min from flag, and I'll be hitting urban the first decent snow flag gets.

Also on snowball, where I've worked and skied for a while: the park is becoming a real park, close to the level of the better mid sized parks in the country. With snowmaking, the rest of the mountain is better too. On pow days, which often are around 25 in and usually once or twice a year push 45-55 in there is now a base toinstead of rocks. However it is Arizona, and pow days can be weeks apart. They also need to take a hint from aspen and remove rocks and tree stumps in glades, which allows people to ski trees in lower snow. One last thing about every employee you see, we all hate you phonecians. You drive 10 mph up the mountain road, park in the ambulance spots, and complain and whine about everything. When its sunny, you complain how there is no pow. When its a storm you whine about visibility and how cold it is, and on sunny pow days you complain how there aren't any groomed runs. I knew 0 other employees who liked valley people. Sorry.

I was looking at the school website and couldn't find a ski club. Is there one? or is there just a chill group of u that I could hang with

Way more dope park skiers than snowboarders up at Snowbowl. Anyone that says differently has no clue what they are talking about. This past year the park game was getting super sick, but then Snowbowl decided they didn't want to have jumps, so they tore them all down. We will see how it goes next year. If you have any more questions you can hit me up on here or on Facebook, I am also the VP of the ski and snowboard club up here.
