yea i have worked on two one for 18mths one for only 9, one for P&O and one for cunnard.
these were 5 star boats, the best of the best so you saw a shit load of money.
you can save money easily as rent and food is provided so you dont spend anything until you are ion port. (these ships were round the world cruises so you are on the ship for 9mths.
port can be fun but you are only aloud to head out at every second port as its half the staff on half the staff off as the ship was still running (restraunts, concierge, cinema etc.) i was a concierge so most of the time spent was ringing the next port to organise trips for guests, reading up on the cities im going to things like that so really 9 hr shift after that study you look at 14 hr days.
waiters and bus boys are easy 10 hr shifts roatating.
pay was good i was on 40 000 euros a year with rent and food as middle managment after i got back to sydney i could get a job anywhere i wanted and had enough cash to put a deposit down on a two bedroom apartment in the middle of sydney,a car, a moterbike and kit my place out.
the down of the job is that you cant go out side of back of house areas when you are not on shift,
you either stay in the commen area which is maybe a basketball field in size which has sofas, canteen, pool table and staff bar.
your room which is tiny im sure smaller then most dorm rooms in a colege usually shared with someone in single beds, i had my girlfriend there so we shared and made a double.
or the staff extirior area which is small tucked on the side underneath the lifeboats and not seen by guests.
very fun job you meet some awesome people and work hard but in port you party and have a blast.
i loved it for about a year and a half then it became tiresomeand i wanted some stability, with my resume i now work at the four seasons in sydney as a concierge, so it takes you places career wise.
one word of warning even as a bus boy you can meet some real shitty guests, you need to have the service industry body, ducks back and a good smile.
