Anyone ever run a triathlon?

Hey everybody

I have started to train for a triathlon in April and I was wondering if there was anyone out there with some tips?

I know most of you are skiers, but I moved away from the snow for college in the fall and I am looking for some killer exercise.

Peace

I compete in triathlon, for about 5 years now. It's a shitload of training, and there is little fun involved. But when you have a good race, it's such a sick feeling. If you don't have a swimming background, that's gonna be the hardest part. If you have any questions feel free to pm me.

ha, Ive been a big runner and biker for years. The swimming is the only tough part. And with two a day training pretty much every day for the last month I think I'll be in plenty good shape.

yeah.....you need to start right now. the hardest part is the swim for most people. find a great swim coach and your set. Practice your brick tons of times. the brick is the transition from bike to run. Its makes your legs feel like bricks. So i go for a good distance bike, then a good distance run. No stop in between.
Do your own triathlons, and track your time.

If u need any tips I was in the quebec lifesaving team and did the canadian lifesaving champs in nova scotia 3 times. I can help u with both running and swimming. I trained a lot and I still do

People always complain about the swim, but that's the easy part for me.
I'm doing the Alcatraz swim in May, soooo stoked.

I'm doing the Chicago triathlon in August. Practice swimming until you're comfortable doing 1.5 - 2 miles straight. Once it starts to warm up in the spring i'll be running/biking a ton. I don't really have any tips for you that you wouldn't find with google, just stay dedicated, don't burn yourself out by training super hard for a month and slacking for the next, and cut out soda and shit.

Throughout the training process, make sure your stroke technique is damn near perfect. If you're swimming that much, you really don't need rotator cuff problems.

What distance are you doing? Because a triathlon can either be ridiculously easy or absolute hell. Sprint distance is like 750m swim, 20km bike, and 5km run. I feel like I could train less than 3 weeks and be able to do that no problem.

i havent ran a tir yet but hopefuly this year i will start doing them, i have a few friends who are big into them and they say that sprints are hell when you accually try and push your self, in my mind olympic distance is easiest,

my advice is to train for the day, and after that day let hell break loose pretty much go wild on the food and soada.

good luck though, if you need and more help pm me

I did a sprint triathlon last year, mearly to switch things up when training for running. I am doing my first marathon in May. I have an all around background from all 3 disciplines, but maybe after I tackle a few marathons I'll dive in to more triathlon training. Need to get a bike first, thats a bitch.

Im thinking of doing at least a Try-A-Tri this summer, probably wont though.

so I don't do triathlons but my parents are into ironmans and from what I have expreienced over the last 17 years, it takes a shit ton of time. My mom does one every five years (so she can be youngest in age group and can be first) and my dad does it every two years but i know you have to be dedicated to traiing like 3-4 hours a day.

my parents have certain days where they focus on one aspect of it like running, swiming or biking. they run like 12 miles one day, then bike two hours the next day and then swim 3 hours one day. they have this extensive calander.

its really hard work but when you finish its pretty crazy how excited and proud they feel people get really emotional too, I cant wait to do one.

I could proably find out more or get there schedule for workouts if you'd want.

Good Luck!

You can train to do an Iron man in a year ( with coaching of course......but training for a tri that long without a coach is a bad idea). I've done a few sprints, and Olympics and will start training for a 70.3 ironman for next year.

The hardest part for me was the swim training. I suck at swiming so bad....and pretty much had to learn from scratch. For swimming i just took a few masters classes, and that helped me out tons. As for my regular training I do intervals for running, and long rides on the bike. I also do brick training ( long bike ride, then go for a run right after) just to get used to transitions from bike to run.

There are tons of clubs out there, the best advice is just go see some events and talk to people. Thats where you will learn the most.

if I start training now how likely would I be to be able to do an olympic triathlon by 1st of feb? Is this enough time of training or am I going to have to push my self to much

We know absolutely nothing about you. For all we know you were an extra in 300, or maybe you're an eheath mirror-image. Judging from the fact that you're too dumb to realize that we could never give you an answer based on what you wrote, I'm going to say don't do it.

Lets get more in deph then. 6,1 70kg, lanky. Currently can run 10K can swim 1k (although not all freestyle) and biking is an unknown factor for me. What else do you want to know?

Your social security number and bank account information. You're completely missing the point. What endurance things have you done before? Do you run ever? Also, being a stupid American, I have no idea what kg means.

03-445-69692380-123 and we dont have social security number is 1. As i said before i can run 10 k or 6.2 miles. I run 3-4 times a week. 154 pounds is my body weight. I have done multiple 10k races before, nothing more than than that though.

Are you doing it solely for fitness? Or are you doing it for the aspects of being a good swimmer and runner as well. If it's just fitness, then I'm going to preach the shit out of XC mountain biking to you. If not then I guess you have your reasons and that's cool to.

But XC, it's the perfect sport for all around fitness. Great cardio, great for building some muscle and staying toned to. Plus, you get to go out, get lost in the forest, all while ripping around and being rad.

Before this shit causes and uproar among triathletes, just go google a few pictures of XC racers or road sprinters, and compare their arms to triathletes and TT cyclists. Seriously, some of the triathletes and TT cyclists out there have disgustingly aero arms.

Anyways I'm done being pretentious about one of the sports I love very much.

Do you mean instead of the road cycling part or in general he should do XC biking instead?

In general. As far as XC mountain biking goes as well, it's offten the cycling portion of duathalons. So if OP wants to do running and biking but not swimming, it's the perfect option.

Fitness comes into it, but mostly i just want to have achieve one of these competitions. Parents have always done marathons and various running endurance events. Quite frankly i cant stand doing the same thing for a long time (marathons take 3 hours) so thats why i want to try a triathlon.

I would like to try one someday but I'm a bad runner and a terrible swimmer. I would have to make up all my time on the bike

Do a team relay triathlon. You do the biking and have two other friends run and swim.
